Unfortunate choice
After avoiding Rare for two years, because of poor management and staff I decided to take my client back to see if anything had changed. Unfortunately, management didn't change although there were new people the same poor attitude was still there. The wait staff was better, and that was about the best thing to say. The burgers, their high end burgers, were filled with sinew and completely undercooked. We asked for medium rare and it came out super rare, I guess the name. We pointed it out to management and he said it was medium, and that red red color was their medium. The quality of the meat was not what I expected for their high end burgers, and unfortunately I will not be coming back for a long time.

No more rare treats
3 stars for pricing? The prices have nearly doubled over the last few years. The $14 mango margarita was good, not great. The lollipop chicken wings were overcooked and very dry. The burgers were good, not great, and fries were not included. The fries trio was good, not great. The cheesecake was the poorest ever, taste was way off. Service was exceptional for a busy place but the food is way overpriced. I hoped for another rare treat but those days are over. This place used to have it all and if they keep this up, they'll have nothing.

When it's good it's great, when it's bad....
I have gone here for YEARS. Always a decent burger. But in the last few months, the service has felt rushed. Why don't they deliver? They have enough people standing around to justify a delivery person! Not thrilled with some of their hostesses - especially the daytime, older woman. If I have a party of three for a business meeting, just seat us so that we're ready when our partner arrives. That's kind of stupid - especially since we're getting ready to spend a good amount on a hamburger. Our waiters are always nice but could use a little more attention to our drinks. The turkey burger has gone south, so I'd stay away from that. But otherwise - the sliders are ALWAYS great and the chicken "wings" are awesome if you like spicy. The atmosphere feels like an upscale Applebees with bad hotel paintings... Whatever, I'm not there for the decor. Good place - just get your delivery going. Seems like a wasted opportunity.

Nice rest, bad street
I was just there last night (friday) and we had a great experience – great food, great service, nice crowd. But tonight (sat) the street the rest is located is really badly populated. The restaurant is great! Hopefully the street can get better.

Not sure what I ordered, but it was good.
I though I had ordered the plain cheese burger, but I got whatever the special was. It was delicious, I don't know what kind of cheese, but it was on the bottom, then the burger, topped with bacon, red peppers, and a fried egg. It was delicious. The beef was fantastic. The sweet potato fries would have been good if they weren't cut so thin that I couldn't pick them up.

great service, GREAT food
we went here for burgers and it was AMAZING! they have the rare burger which is a plain burger for $9 and then you add whatever you want from the bottom of the page for $1 each.. it ended up DELICIOUS! the basket of various fries included shoestring, sweet potato and waffle. stick with waffle, the other two aren't that good. the service was AMAZING, our serveuse was both friendly and just really funny. a great night out!

Tough to Beat
Let loose and go on a topping tear at the West Village’s Rare. This downtown favorite defies burger creativity with a vast selection of condiments and extra’s. The ‘Murray’s Cheeseburger’ offers an ever changing special that is handpicked weekly by its “cheese team”. This attractive menu item introduces innovative ways to prepare some of the most delicious cheeseburger creations in Manhattan. Just a few blocks up from Rare stands Murray’s Cheese one of New York’s oldest and finest specialty cheese shoppes on Leroy Street. Rare has used its prime location to its advantage and has incorporated the many artisan cheeses available just a few doors up. Tonight’s Murray’s Cheeseburger, the waiter presents, is 8 oz. of organically raised American Chuck beef marinated in Blue Moon Belgian wheat beer with garlic infused Vermont Sharp Cheddar, caramelized onions, apple smoked bacon, fresh guacamole, lettuce, and seasonal heirloom tomatoes. Do I need to keep going or have you made your reservation yet? This will surely not leave your mouth disappointed if one is lucky enough to stumble in when this burger delight reappears on the menu.
