Rack & Soul

I moved to NYC a few years ago, originally from Louisiana and Texas. I've tried a number of the BBQ joints around here and this is by far the best. I've enjoyed a number of their entrees, but to me the BBQ wings and ribs really stand out. I'm not a huge fan of their sides (though I like the potato salad), but entrees are well worth the trip. I simply can't understand what people see in places like Dinosaur.

I have lived in NYC for over 15 years, but born and raised in NC...on NC BBQ. I have tried practically every bbq joint in this city, but yet to find anything closer to home than rack&soul. I was suddenly transported to Lexingon, NC via the staff/decor/ambiance/food.

Wow, if you like barbcue this is a great local place! Quick delivery, friendly people and delicious food! I don't know whick KFC that guy was eating at but there is no comparison! The Beef ribs rock and you get 3 huge ones! I always have leftovers for the next day! Pulled pork is great too. Excellent Mac' They are my go to people for comfort and hunger!

I read somewhere that R&S had the best fried chicken in the city. Wow, what a disappointment! I ordered takeout and was out of the restaurant quickly and home 10 minutes later. The chicken wasn't as good as the fried chicken I've had in 1,000 other places. The mac wasn't bad (my girlfriend hated it, though.) The mashed potatos were clearly made from powdered flakes - not real potatos. And the biscuit was inedible - soft and wet on top and hard as a rock on the bottom. I can't imagine why anyone would go here (unless maybe you're the sort who thinks its cool to eat "ordinary folks" food but feels compelled to go to overpriced places that make expensive "ordinary folks" food.)

Rack & Soul is pretty good. Not as good as Spoonbread II, but certainly tasty. Delivery is fast and the food arrives hot. However, It's at least twice as expensive as the place it replaced. I could get chicken and vegetables (very tasty, I might add) for $7.99/lb whereas now I pay $14.00 for pretty much the same thing. I guess they call that progress...or perhaps gentrification.

Recently the opened next door to where the used to be located. Completely changed the atmosphere by making more upscale but still had that down south feel. The food was absolutely amazing! I eat out ever night and i have to say that i had not had Cajun food this good Since I had been in New Orleans. You must try it...
