Rack & Soul

I ordered from Rack & Soul for the first time tonight. Not only is the menu more exciting than most BBQ joints, the food is better. The pulled pork dinner comes with 2 sides (I was excited to see a Belgian Waffle on the sides menu) and could easily compete with any pulled pork in the city--Rack & Soul is better. The delivery man showed up quickly (and with a smile) and the food was hot and well packaged. If you are on the UWS and in their delivery zone this is the best BBQ meals you will get and among the best value for any type of food. I plan to visit the restaurant next time I go out for BBQ.

My husband and I love this place, but recently have been turned away twice from dining here, despite arriving well within their stated business hours. A couple of weeks ago we arrived around 9pm on a weeknight and were told that they were no longer seating customers. It seemed a little strange because it was still relatively early, but fine. They offered to pack up a takeout order for us, and served it promptly. Tonight (July 3rd, night before a holiday) we stopped by at 9:30 and were told they were no longer taking customers because they "ran out of food". A big table of people were clearly eating in the dining room right in front of us. Honestly the person wasn't really very believable, it seemed more like they just decided they didn't want to work anymore tonight. Funny, I thought restaurants wanted to serve food and charge people money for doing so. I'm not sure if this can be attributed to staff who just didn't want to work anymore or if these just happen to be two freak occurrences (within a few weeks of each other). I will say that the times we have dined there the service was always good. Like I said, we love their food but one more of these weird experiences and we may be done with them. It's not often that I walk away from a place feeling like they don't actually want my business.

I was in the mood for some southern food so I looked up a place on this site and this restaurant popped up so I thought I'd give it a try boy do I regret that. First off they took forever to deliver then once the food got here I was even disappointed by the food not only was it to expensive it was, a small portion and it didn't even taste that good. I warn you not to bother ever ordering from this place.

As a city boy with texas heritage, I have always longed for a reliable BBQ place. Anyone worth their opinion knows that most BBQ restaurants are hacks, but will do if you need some BBQ sauce on stuff. This place is the BEST. Their ribs are so good I ended up ordering them 3 days in a row. 3 DAYS! I'm so happy to have found this place. All of their proteins are stellar (ribs, pulled pork, chicken wings, etc). The sides are a bit less impressive, but certainly aren't bad. I've suggested this place to all my friends. And now I'm writing this review (which I never do) specifically to encourage more people to go here. The best.

Ordered 2 pulled pork platters, fried shrimp po boy and crawfish tails for lunch at 12:20. Traveled from 56th to 109th to get food - arrive and are told that 5 minutes earlier - 15 minutes since ordering our food - there was no pulled pork. Hmm..Ok - make it a grilled chicken and another fried shrimp and a side order of mac and cheese. We wait and Wait and finally get our food and get home 1 hour after ordering - and despite being charged $3.95 for the mac and cheese? Not in the bag. I call and he remembers me and says - "I forgot your mac and cheese." "Yup" "Where are you?" "56th." - Oh... well I can give you credit for one, or two! Now really - what does that do for me 50 blocks away and a baby who eats mac and cheese for lunch with no food?

We had eaten at Rack and Soul some months back with our son, his wife and their 14 month old daughter, and it was terrific. So Sunday we tried take out - I went from 56th ST to 110th to order and take out. OMG - despite a large private party going on and the bar area covered with platters of BBQ, wings, potato salad, slaw, beans, etc. the service was immediate, and the portions? My wife and I each got the pulled pork platter with two sides. The pork was fantastic - lean, moist, tender and wonderfully flavored BBQ with none of the fat we have gotten from other BBQ locations. I covered 1/2 my 10" dinner plate at home with BBQ, 1/4 with beans and mac and cheese and had some of my wife's slaw. We had the equivalent of one full rectangular container of BBQ left over, and some of the sides and we were satiated. Generous portions, delicious food, great service. Can't comment on delivery service, but picking it up myself? Highly recommended. Best BBQ we have had in the city.

Recently had R&S delivered....not good....ribs were the only thing that held up ok but the fried chicken was tasteless and dry, the sides - mashed potatoes and cole slaw were bland and unseasoned. The pulled pork was unfortunately the biggest disappointment - dry and tasteless. Not sure if it was the lack of fat or the limited infusion of rub/sauce but desperate;y needed the side of BBS on it....by contract the two meals I have had there were pretty good.
