    Better than ever

I have been to Quatorze before several times, but after my experience last evening I thought I really had to submit a review. The restaurant is always lovely, and I have never had anything but superior service, but my meal last night was an all time high. I am one of the people left on the planet who likes calves liver, and I had the best liver I have ever had. I am particular about where I order liver because it is so easy to over-cook. This was absolutely perfect. I'll be back sooner than last time.

    Lovely Neighborhood Spot

Quatorze Bis always seems to be bustling with an older (but not old) and respectable looking crowd who seem to be enjoying themselves. Delicious classic French food from the creamy potato and leak soup (oh, so rich!) to the proverbial steak au poivre with frites. This is a great place for brunch, too, as the chef really knows how to make an omelet and it's also lovely for a drink by the bar even if you're not eating. It has the feel of someplace that would offer a great souffle or decadent chocolate cake for dessert and we were disappointed to find it didn't. But otherwise, it's a little touch of expensive civility in the city.

    The best of its kind

I've been going to Quatorze since it was on 14th Street, and it has always delivered perfect French bistro food adapted for the American market. Wonderful bread and butter, roast chicken, steak frites (the best frites in town), chicory salads with lardons and of course the tarte tatin. I eye the choucroute but decide against it because no one will share with me. The service is warm but not hovering, and the wines good but not excessive. A lovely place.

    Enjoyable experience

As other reviewers have noted, this is a bistro that knows how to deliver excellent bistro fare. My husband and I dined there yesterday evening with friends, and all of us enjoyed our selections. Mine was duck confit, a personal favorite, which was really excellent. Service was attentive without being overwhelming. There are only two things I would improve if I could. First is that the restaurant was uncomfortably warm, particularly for the men. Second is that the noise level could be a bit more subdued. However, these did not spoil the overall experience.

    Love It

Quatorze is consisently excellent. They make us feel at home each time. Great steak frite & roast chicken, and the specials are usually very good. It is our neighborhood place, but I would make a trip. If there is an issue, it would be that it isn't cheap. Still, it makes up for it in our minds.

    Always a sure bet!

We live in the neighborhood and anytime we went a consistently delicious, great service kind of meal - this is where we head first. The staff is always lovely and welcoming and the food is always great. Their consistency from visit to visit proves they've really gotten it all down pat. Sure, they've been there a long time but even the old time places often lose their elan. Not this place. It's always a great experience. Check it out when it snows- there's something magical about it in the quiet of falling snow. (They need to let their butter warm up though)

    Excellent Bistro Lunch

This was my first visit and I will be back. I had the striped bass, sauteed spinach and mashed potatoes. The food was cooked perfectly and had amazing flavor (lots of butter - it's French!) I highly recommend you try Quatorze Bistro!!
