This place is overall really solid. Good coffee. Decent food with a middle eastern bent (the lox sandwich is usually a standout). Pretty decor of handmade woods, metals, and other organic materials. Pleasant, welcoming atmosphere with low-key music never turned on too loudly. Staff generally laid-back, friendly, and attentive. A nice garden with a fountain in the back excellent for warm days. I live in the neighborhood, and have been going periodically since it opened-- must have been there fifty times or more at this point-- and not once have I experienced first-hand or overheard the kind of attitude the last reviewer mentions, or seen them ask anyone to leave. While I'm not ruling out this possibility, if this altercation did happen, maybe there is more to the situation than the reviewer lets on or at least perceived. It's true that they don't allow laptops on the weekends, but this policy makes sense, because the place gets really busy then and they need some way of discouraging people from camping out and surfing the web for hours and denying other cafe-goers tables. While it would be great to always be able to work on one's laptop at a cafe indefinitely at any time, the place does need to make money, and this weekend policy is now standard at many cafes that have seen their business flagging due to internet usage.

Within 5 minutes they told me I needed to order something or leave. I ordered coffee. Within 60 minutes, with my coffee still warm, they told me I needed to order food or leave. They left me with a very bad impression that they are not customer oriented. The atmosphere is nice but they destroyed the idea that it could be a neighborhood coffee shop

Qathra is a great neighborhood hangout in Ditmas Park. This area has recently seen the emergence of several great restaurants, and Qathra is easily a contender in this new foodie scene. The service is friendly, the baristas are knowledgeable, and owner is great! I love their lentil soup and mozzarella, basil, and tomato sandwich. So good! And the caramel latte? Out of this world. One very happy customer.
