Went here tonight and had a fantastic dinner. Lamb shank was spectacular with a nice bottle of Greek red wine (which was brand new to me). All in all, a nice surprise and highly recommended. A good date spot.

The food is delicious, well presented in a cozy, romantic atmosphere, but the staff have major attitude issues. It's too bad b/c now I will think 3 times before wanting to go there again...

I want to submit a review to encourage people to go to this place and not rely on the few bad postings... As stated in my title, I am not greek, but I can recognize a good restaurant... Good food, good athmosphere, good service... no more to say

I had to chime in here... As a real NY foodie who tries a lot of different places in the city - this ranks as one of my favorites... The food is great - the grilled octopus is to die for, as is the mousakka!!! As for a minimum - I have been there maybe 10 times, have not spent 25 several of those times, and never heard a thing about a minimum, that poster may have been to a different restaurant!

I have been to Pylos three times now and I've had three very good experiences... I feel compelled to write now that two poor reviews in a row have been posted. First of all, the restaurant is beautiful. They somehow turn a ho-hum storefront space into a very transporting ambience... beautiful wood, pleasing lighting design, and the lovely (now famous) clay pots hanging overhead. The wine selection is also very special... interesting Greek wines that are all unusual and very gently priced. As for the food, the dishes I've tried have ranged from good to very delicious... certainly not the best food in the city, but I've never been disappointed and I'm always impressed by the generous portions. (PS, the $25 food minimum that another reviewer complained about has never been enforced or mentioned to me in my three visits). The servers I've had were always very friendly, and always patient when I'm having trouble deciding! The one time I've had to wait for a table, the hostesses were so sweet and apologetic. They gave us frequent (and accurate) updates on how long our table would take, and as soon as a seat at the bar opened up they allowed us to sit, even though we only had five more minutes to wait. Always a lovely experience at Pylos! In fact, I'm on my way back right now.

I also live near Pylos closer to NYU, and find the food to be just fabulous. Being greek myself, it feels like I am eating my mother's food or am actually in greece. I dont understand how someone could find the food to be not good. Must not have that much experience eating out.

I live in the neighborhood and ever since i passed by the restaurant they were busy so i wanted to give it a try. I am not going to tell a long story. I was dissapointed with the food and service. Not recommended. Mousakka was all over the plate i think it was over microwaved...salads are good, though
