Things started going downhill when it took twenty minutes to get our wine, and it became worse when we found out that they didn?t have several of the key menu items ? dolmades, moussaka, lamb shank, and a few others. At first we thought it was just a kitchen problem, and gave our waiter the benefit of the doubt. But then we had to remind him that we hadn?t ordered main courses, and even though I said my order at least four times (because it took that many tries to get him to take our main course order), he still managed to bring me the wrong dish. He had even pointed to the menu and repeated the order. When I told him what I had ordered ? and what he had repeated ? he told me that they didn?t have any that night. So, I wound up eating nothing, and just vowing not to return. The same story seemed to be repeated at a few tables around us, with other servers, where many customers must have come to the same conclusion. The food (when they managed to get it right) seemed good, but everything else was far from being worth the price and trouble.

Just got back from Greece last week and missed the wonderful freshness of the food- so I decided to check out this spot last night. It was AMAZING- we ordered 3 appetizers and they were all incredibly fresh and tasty. The wine was recommended by the server and was excellent. When the check came I was pleasantly surprised because you get a lot for your money. The waitress was friendly and warm even though it was late! I loved the decor- my boyfriend and I made bets on how many pots were hanging from the cieling (I won)! Highly recommend Pylos for any occasion.

We had a great time celebrating a friend's b'day. The food was great, the ambience is excellent. I think the wines are a little overpriced though. But I definitely like the place and recommend it.

The bread with the chickpea spread starting the meal was quite good. My companion was very satisfied with his meatball appetizer and his main dish, though I don't recall what that was. I had the artichoke moussaka for my meal. I wasn't starving, so the portion size was perfect (especially after the bread) and it's nice to see a unique twist on a traditional dish. We split the fried potatoes with cheese and a spice I can't recall, and while the portion size was quite generous the fries (they were fries) were a bit dry. I was too ashamed to ask for ketchup. Overall, a good place to try for fans of Greek cuisine.

If you like Greek food, you have to come to Pylos. Located in the heart of East Village right by Tompkins Square Park, Pylos is in good company with restaraunts all around them. The food here is superb. Amazing flavors and great Greek home cooked feel. The lamb is as tender and flavorful as it gets and the appetizers are all delicious! The service can be slow as it gets busy sometimes, and you must get a reservation to be seated promptly. This place is usually booked. for dinner. The food and value is definately worth it. Large serving sizes for entrees and a very well decorated resteraunt. Love it!

I have turned on a close friend with national connections to this place, and it may now even be harder to get a spontaneous table! She was floored by the surprising wonders of Pylos: excellent food, attentive service and acceptable prices for the entire experience. When I suggested we meet at this wonderful Greek restaurant, she was expecting the worst of it, and it takes a lot to move this woman from her Upper East Side perch. This restaurant has done it! We have a standing date to meet here, and I am ready/willing/able.

After reading some great reviews of Pylos, I decided to go with some friends and am so happy that I did. The restaurant has a warm atmosphere, friendly service and the food was simply amazing. The saganaki is divine and the shrimp and scallops dish was perfect. I am still thinking about the meal this morning! Support this restaurant- it is a gem!
