Good food, terrible wine list
I've now been to Pylos 2-3 times. We've been frustrated everytime at the mediocre quality of the wines, all of which are wildly overpriced for what they are. Whenever I mention this to friends who have been there, they agree - but complaints seem to get us nowhere. And unfortunately beer is not the best match for Greek food...

Good food; poor service
There are too many great restaurants to endure the rushed and rude service. I live in the neighborhood and have been many times. I've stopped recommending it.

Totally agree with the reviews, service is off
I've been to Pylos twice and I don't think I'll be returning for a while. The food is good, not great but solid and the price point is fair. The problem is with the service. Both times we were there our waiter forgot to bring dishes and drinks we ordered. They rush you through your meal so quickly its hard to enjoy yourself. A better trained more refined staff would go a long way here!

great food, poor service
Went to Pylos for lunch randomly on a Wednesday. Though one other party was seated at the time we arrived, we were the only diners in the restaurant for most of our meal. The setting and decor were really pleasant, especially because the doors were open and it was a beautiful day. The grilled salmon and grilled shrimp were both very good (albeit expensive) and came with excellent fried potatoes. And the taramosalata was a good lunch starter. The issue was the service. As I said before, we were the only diners in the restaurant for most of the meal. We ordered exactly three items: taramosalata, grilled shrimp and grilled salmon. Shortly after placing our order, the waiter brought us some warm bread, presumably for the taramosalata. The taramosalata did not arrive, however, until we "reminded" the waiter 15 minutes later that we had ordered it. He had "forgotten." By that time, the pita was cold. (Again--we were the only party in the restaurant at the time.) In addition, the salmon and shrimp came out very slowly. And the restaurant phone rang very loudly the whole time. We thought the waiter might try to make up for his mistake regarding the taramosalata (by, for example, giving us a dessert or not charging us for the taramosalata), but he did nothing. When you go to an expensive restaurant (make no mistake: Pylos is expensive), and you're the only people there, there is no excuse for "messing up" an order. I liked the food at Pylos, but the service was too lazy. Given the hundreds of awesome restaurants New York has to offer, there is no reason to choose a place with such poor service.

solid place
Went there last night with some friends (second time to pylos). The place has a nice, intimate decor, service is polite and not pushy, food is quite excellent. Would recommend for good greek food or as a good date place. Will go back again. The only "negative" so to speak are the wines - not to keen on the greek wine selection they have (which is quite pricey too) but this is not necessarily their fault.

Good Greek Place
Came here for brunch with my bf. The service was great, space was beautifully decorated - loved all the mirrors. I liked that they served tea, coffee and mimosa with the brunch special. Ordered the grilled calamari salad for starters and it was to die for, just so delicious. The feta cheese omelette was just ok, however, my bf's salmon omelette was a bit better, but nothing too special about the omelettes. But they also serve yummy, warm pita bread which I liked dipping into my salad.

Best Greek in NYC
The entire meal was spectacutlar, as was the service. We had a grilled whole dorado with potatoes and salad. Spectacular. Absolutely much better quality than many of the pricier, overrated greek restaurants in the city. Very friendly waitress who has been with this place for years said it took the owner a year to find a fish vendor he liked that delivers fresh every day. It was worth the wait - so fresh and wonderfully prepared. Cannot wait to go back.
