Amazing even if you're a meat and potato person...

Everywhere I read this place has stellar reviews. As a vegetarian I've been wanting to try Pure Food and Wine for a while. Well, I went tonight and will not be returning- ever. While the food is tasty, it is ridiculously over priced for the food and the tiny portions...come on, let's get real, it's raw vegetables. Unfortunately I came home and had a real dinner (that is after splurging on an appetizer, entree, and dessert). So not worth the pretty penney I paid tonight.

This place gives vegans and vegetarians a bad rap. Have given it 4-5 tries as options in NYC for nicer veg friendly meals are limited, and every time I've come here for something other than a cocktail, it's been disappointing. Wanted to like it, but can't take it seriously. Service is pedestrian and comes with loads of attitude (haven't been since the summer, so sorry if there's been a magic turn around). Food is poorly portioned, over priced, and overrated. It might be fun for folks that normally eat meat but want a one off raw experience, I guess. But I'd suggest anyone who's a day to day vegetarian steer clear. There are way better options.. Even putting up w/ the one vegetarian option at a similarly priced non-veg restaurant is more enjoyable. Would eat a steak before I ever, ever go back. If you're raw vegan, you might feel differently. But again, if you're seriously raw vegan and have been for awhile.. you probably wouldn't like it either. Their cocktails are harmless, but why bother unless you live on gramercy..

A fantastic and daring raw foods restaurant. Raw meaning nothing heated over 118 degrees, for the sake of preservation of enzymes, and thus healthier in nutrients. Regardless of the scientific implications, this is a very rewarding experience for the intrepid minded culinary explorer. Great date atmosphere, excellent and friendly service, a fantastic experience.

I tried this place after I bought their cookbook and realized they had a restaurant in NYC. I brought one of my gir friends who is lactose intolerant and we both loved it. The lasanga was incredible and the ice cream sundae is a must (you would never guess it was all raw and healthy)! The atmosphere was great; a little cramped for space but best food ever. You leave feeling satisfied instead of the usual stuffed and lathargic feeling you get eating cooked foods and breads. Truely a top notch, gourmet raw food place! Must try!

I went there on a first date with a guy who is a vegetarian and it was awesome. The service was amazing and the atmosphere was great. Very quiet, relaxing place. The food was delicious, the wine was great and we left feeling full and satisfied! It is a little overpriced for the portions that you get but the food is well worth it!
