Excellent, esp. anything with mole sauce!
I have eaten there and also had delivery. The enchiladas with mole and rice/beans were fantastic. I've had them twice, once with chicken and once with steak. Yummy. Tghe mole sauce was so amazing. The steak enchiladas were cooked a bit more than the chicken or maybe it was because the chicken enchiladas had more sauce. Either way, both were fantastic. If you like mole sauce, ask for extra on top. Delivery was quick (10 minutes) and I am about 15 blocks away. I also ordered the steak torta to have for lunch tomorrow. It's huge (haven't tried it yet though). So glad that they are willing to deliver to me (as I am out of their range). There is nothing like this mole sauce near me (Gramercy) that is inexpensive and very good.

Well, that's the end of that.
Have been gleefully ordering from Puebla for several years. Solid food, local family business, etc. It was all you needed for a filling and inexpensive meal with a little bit of actual, good taste thrown in. Sadly, I think the other night was the final nail in the coffin. As other reviewers have been posting, the food truly has gone downhill in the last couple years, from tasty to passable. However, the service, and whoever some new hires are, is what killed Puebla for me the other night. We ordered nachos, amongst other things (the Milensia Torta is a fav) and waited about 45 mins. (standard for Puebla) for delivery. When our food arrived, our nachos were simply tortilla chips with a spoonful of guac on them. To be clear, I'm not being hyperbolic. The nachos were literally just chips with some guac. So, assuming kindly that it was maybe there was a mishearing or a language barrier issue, I called Puebla back and explained the situation. "You ordered wrong," the young woman on the telephone responded. That's odd, I thought, I've been basically ordering the same thing for 2 years. "You didn't say Mexican nachos," she went on to explain, and then the line went dead. "Hello?" I said. "Mexican nachos?" She hung up on me? I wondered aloud. It clearly was a mistake. I called back. "Hello?" I said. "I think we got disconnected. So anyhow, my nachos..." *Click. She hung up on me again? This time, as a sickly feeling rose in my chest, I had to admit that yes, the counterwoman had clearly hung up on me. I'm assuming b/c she was aware of her mistake and wasn't interesting in 'fessing up, which I suppose is understandable. But, having paid $40 ($33 for food + delivery tip) for mediocre food, slow delivery, and being HUNG UP on by the restaurant twice, I think it's clear at this point what a cost/benefit analysis will reveal. I can't think of many alternate solutions to the style of food at the price you can find at Puebla, but I don't feel as though I deserve to be disrespected in the manner that they disrespected me. It was fun, Puebla.

Great Mexican in East Village!
I've been eating Mexican food in the East Village for over a year and have tried them all. Puebla is consistently great. I recommend the Steak Burrito, or for vegetarians, a great Vegetable Burrito. The homemade green hot sauce is fantastic!! Everyone that works here is amiable. The prices are great and more reasonably priced than other burrito joints on 1st ave.

Still going srong
Sorry guys... need to disagree. I rarely post, but Puebla has been feeding me for to long for to cheap not to come to their defense. The food is still great and pound for pound one of the best values in the neighborhood. The torta's are phenomenal, and this is not the place you go for ambiance. This is the place you come for great, authentic mexican.

You know what? The food has gone downhill too
Guys. Delivery service is poor, yes. But have you noticed that the food quality is going down, too? Last couple times I ordered, the meat was just unappetizing. I dunno about old Puebla. Used to be a favorite, but now ... on the fritz.

What a decline!
I agree with Matthew below. The food is still delicious, but the people who answer the phone are surprisingly rude and get something wrong pretty much every time. It's not pleasant to order from here any more.

Great Food, Great Owner
the food here is fabulous. i love the torta sandwiches and burritos. the breakfast burritos are amazing. it is a great value. the owner works hard and is a doll. whatever kids work behind the counter can be a pain and not pick up the phone but the food is worth it
