    fallen

this was a good place when it opened two years ago, but now it seems like there's no one at the helm. i heard a recent rumor about legal troubles or something. who knows? anyway, there are now better wine bars all over the UES side.

    Great UES Wine Bar

Incredibly nice staff, knowledgable and friendly. The food was simple, understated and really good. We stopped by on a random Monday night just for a quick drink and wound up staying for dinner and almost until closing. Definitely recommended.

    Good UES Wine Bar

I had been recommended to this wine bar by some friends that live in the area. I was actually surprised by how good the food was for a wine bar. They also had a fantastic wine and cheese pairing that night which included 3 of each for $15. It is a great spot to meet up with friends on the UES.

They insisted charging for something we never ordered!

A group of us went at 10pm on a Friday after a nice dinner on the upper east side. We ordered wine as we were all pretty full from dinner. We asked to try a couple of wines and the bartender kindly obliged and even made a few suggestions. We were intrigued by a 2000 pinot noir that was described as "earthy" (knowing that many pinot noir's have a shorter shelf life). After the tasting, we were suspect of the whole wine list. It was well past its prime and tasted like actual dirt...should never have been on the menu. For a wine bar, we were especially not happy. As the night progressed and the waitress kept trying to push food on us to increase the bill, we grew tired of her service, the wine and the atmosphere so we asked for the bill. When we received it, we noticed there was an extra red wine. We told her about the mistake and asked her to remove the charge. She insisted that we ordered three glasses of red and would not remove the charge. The four of us had only ordered a total of five glasses, so we were completely aware of how many glasses we'd ordered. We asked to speak to the manager. After a short discussion, he also would not remove the charge and insisted we had ordered six glasses. Utterly taken aback by their insistance, we simply removed the cost of the glass from our tip (which should have been zero) and called it a night. Will never go back...all over one glass of wine. Unbelieveably poor service.

    so disappointed - actually embarassing

I brought a friend here for dinner and out of all the good places we could have gone on the upper east side, this was embarassingly poor. The service was subpar. They were out of every thing we ordered, even the wine we picked (and it's a wine bar). It took over an hour to get our food. The waitress highly recommended the lamb as their best dish - it was tso fatty and dry. The steak was also dry - no taste.

    bad timing?

Maybe it was bad timing, but after reading reviews, my friend and I wanted to check it out on a Thursday night. There were about 6 other patrons besides us when we got there. Though it was nice and open and had a good feeling, no one else was there. We tried to order 2 bottles of wine from our server. Then were told they did not have them. Our server seemed a little lost, but on a slow night it didn't bother us, but wasn't very informative. The fillet we ordered, was excellent, but I wouldn't recommend it with other wine bars in the neighborhood that are fantastic. The bar is set pretty high.

    The Chef Surpriseth

Miss Moore should learn not to go to a wine bar for the food, which was average and tepid, though the appetisers were sharper and had zing. But many plates had sides and ingredients not reflected on the menu and the menu had ingredients and sides not indicated on the plates! That said, the warmth of the atmosphere and the stellar service made our evening one to remember...
