    Amazing!

Had a wonerful evening with friends. The food was excellent and inventive, the service was attentive and the room is beautiful -- candles everywhere and a view of a park out the window. I had the lentil salad and the duck, both of which were great (especially the potatoes with the duck. Others had swordfish and lamb, and enjoyed them very much. The desserts were to die for - especially the Australian hokey pokey with passion fruit sauce. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a special meal.

    Good But Not Great

I found the host to be very accommodating when my dinner companion and I showed up without a reservation. I'd say that the portions were just adequate but overall, not worth the price on the menu. I enjoyed my trout but my friend thought his pork was mediocre. The one thing I'd say was absolutely annoying is the menu, visually! The print is incredibly small and the type is "artistically faded". Under normal circumstances it wouldn't be easy to read but in this dimly lit restaurant it was nearly impossible! Glancing over at other tables nearby who'd been given their menus, every single one had lifted a candle and was squinting to varying degrees. All in all, I'd eat there again but I wouldn't run back. Not great value for what you get and although I enjoyed my meal, it wasn't over the top delicious.

Great Service, Good Food, Awful Hostess

Besides a very snotty hostess this was an excellent meal. The portions seemed fine to me and the quality was excellent. Our waiter was also wonderful. Helped us with the menu and provided a free pairing with our dessert after some friendly banter. If things had not been as good I would skip this place in future simply because of the hostess.

    Disappointing

Went for brunch. Snooty attitude, reduced selection compared to 12 months ago. Extremely small servings.

Good starts & desserts, decent venue...

The starters and desserts were great! The venue was just fine...but that's about it. We, a party of 4, waited 1 hour after ordering for our meal to show up. Sure the place was nice but waiting 1 hour for a group of 4 as well as a weak main course wasn't very nice. The prices are above the value, drinks are also not so great. I wouldn't recommend Public. Great potential but poor execution.

    Very impressed

I came in recently for the Sunday Supper. Best deal in the city (5 courses for $50!). All very tasty, service was quite good, and the space blew me away. I came back on a Friday, and there was a bit of wait, so I'd recommend making a booking. Good looking crowd made for plenty of eye candy as we waited. Overall, a very pleasant experience

    A disappointment

i have eaten at Public many times and always been a very big fan of the food and the space. However, i ate there again this week and had an incredibly disappointing experience. the food was only okay and the portions laughable! i am not a fan of huge portions but i am also not a fan of leaving a restaurant after several courses hungry!! there are too many other great restaurants to go to - the most recent trip was likely my last. pass on this one!
