    Not recommended

This was simply a bad place to take a date. Overpriced, rude staff, a long wait even though a reservation was made. Attitude is not a dish I care to eat.

    Highly recommed

Public is a great place is you want to try some new food. They have great cocktails and a nice room in the back. A lovely date place or to meet friends. Service and food are consistently good. Nice job.

    Best table in Manhattan.

My girlfriend and I sat out on the terrace that overlooks the statue garden. It is on a platform raised above the sidewalk so you have the benefits of dining outside without having to deal with exhaust fumes or excessive pushing and noise. Wafts cherry blossoms from the fully bloomed tree over the statue garden would hit us throughout the meal and it was heavenly. Elizabeth street is fairly quite so we really were able to relax and enjoy our food and conversation. The food was divine, the ambiance gorgeous and peaceful, and the staff were professional and efficient. Our waiter, Clay, explained every item on our 5 course tasting menu in great detail and every bite was delectable. He was unobtrusive and yet highly attentive. We had everything we needed before we could think to ask. After what I thought was most likely an hour and a half of bliss, I looked down at my cell and realized we had been out there for three and a half hours! We were never rushed and the entire experience could not have been more enjoyable. I cannot recommend this place enough.

the best duck i have ever had...

i cannot believe it has taken me this long to dine at public - the food was superb. my waiter recommended the duck entree and he was correct - it was a perfect marriage of flavors and textures. and that was after first having anchovies on quinoa cakes that were to die for. this is definitely a late night hot spot - saw a couple of celebrities - but it is one of the few hot spots with amazing cuisine to warrant being hot.

    Wouldn't Recommend

I have heard good things as far the food and atmosphere of this place; however, went there for brunch yesterday and were told a 20 minute wait which turned into a hour. We went up twice to get an update on when we would be seated and both times the hostess did not smile or apologize. After the hour my friends and I decided to go to a different place because at this point we had waited 40 minutes after - we told the hostess who just rolled her eyes and said ok - in my opinion not the best way to encourage business. I will not go back to this restaurant even because of the poor service.

    A good value

Very good cocktails, cool and trendy atmosphere but the most important interesting menu and good food. Considering some past reviews I don't know if we've been lucky or if they now pay more attention to the preparation of the dishes but everybody at the table loved their plates. Def worth the try.

    Superb!

This is by far one of the best restaurants in the city! I have been here both for dinner and for their amazing and undeniable wonderful brunch and every single time and every person i bring along get converted. The service is exceptional and very attentive. The food in incredibly good and their Sunday $50 Supper is unsurpassed. The dishes like the Foie Gras with french toast and the versatile lentil salad with avocados never cease to amaze me. My husband loves the lamb and the venison dishes and my daughter talks about the pork belly constantly. I don't have enough room to express my love for the desserts... I truly recommend it! Make reservations though, on busy nights the wait can be long. The music is a little loud but so is the bar scene so it's not the end of the world.
