so sad
the first time i went to prune i had one of the best meals i've ever experienced. the portions were generous and i enjoyed everything that i ordered. it was well worth the money. went there another time for brunch (had to wait 2 hrs for table but was worth it) and LOVED it again. then i raved about it to friends and finally took them there 7/07...it was subpar...the service was rude and pushy, the portions were tiny and way overpriced and didn't even taste very good. definitely won't be returning again, not worth the high prices at all. very sad...this was a great place but seems to have lost it.

Just average!
Went for dinner last night. The staff was great and I enjoyed the intimacy of the space but the food was just ok. Maybe Brunch is better?

Too bad
This is the first time I've felt compelled to write a negative review or for that matter, any review online. I first ate at Prune several years ago and totally loved it. This time, the staff was blase at best and seemed to only care about getting us out of there as soon as possible. The food was occasionally interesting, but nothing liked I remembered. Seems like a classic case of a good concept finally running out of steam. Sadly, I can't recommend this place any more.

Felt like I was in Europe
Very European atmosphere at this tiny crampped, yet not uncomfortable restaurant. Almost like eating outdoors in the summer, since its very open in front. First rate food, all the way; fish dishes are excellent; great desserts and great wine list. Prices are on the high side but not outrageeous. Wonderful staff.

Pleasant Surprise
I went with a James Beard Award winning chef, who picked the restaurant. The appetizers were fabulous, bread was great and my dinner was outstanding. It was a terrific meal and I had not even heard of the place before I went.

Lovely Little Place!
We enjoyed our dinner at Prune. I think people's complaints about this restaurant stem from misconceptions about the restaurant itself. Because of it's excellent reputation, they expect a destination dinner, but really it is a little neighborhood restaurant. The space is cramped, the waitstaff are friendly, the menu is small. It is a lovely little place. Try the head-on shrimp with anchovy butter, they are spectacular!

Don't waste your time waiting
Flavorless food. Very disappointing. Very friendly service, but I usually go to restaurants to enjoy the food and not to make friends. By the way, be prepared for a lack of privacy, you'll be eating on top of your neighbor. I really don't understand the long lines outside!
