I don't get it
What's the fuss about? The food, while well-prepared is unexceptional. The noise level is so high, the waitstaff yells information to customers. All in all, a really unpleasant experience

Ratatouille Sandwich @ Prune
I ordered the ratatouille open-faced sandwich ($14). Ratatouille is a Niçoise dish of stewed eggplant, zucchini and tomatoes. This one, atop crusty, toasted ciabatta bread, was flavored with olives, capers and a variety of herbs; it was topped with an unbelievably delicious, silky garlic aoli and toasted poppy seeds. The flavors were well-developed and pretty intense. The dish was simple and, for being meatless, surprisingly filling. Read the rest at http://appetu.de/t1jOAS

Book club gobbles down both the book and the restaurant!
Our book club met at Prune to discuss and enjoy Gabrielle Hamilton's delicious food. Sharing the bittersweet negroni cocktail lovingly referred to in her book was a great way to start our discussion. Loved the glass it was served in and enjoyed the bitter and sweet orange. A generous drink! Our lunches were expertly prepared. The duck was flavorful and cooked to perfection. Married perfectly with the beets and homemade mayo which I could have drunk directly from the bowl. Swordfish with anchovy butter was delicious and just the right amount. The fries are out of this world and desserts refreshingly light so one can enjoy without worrying about becoming overly full. Great coffee. Well worth the visit. Love Gabrielle Hamilton who stopped by to say hello and sign our books. She is more beautiful than any picture I've seen and generous beyond words answering questions about her family. I hope she writes another book because she is both a brilliant chef and writer.

Deeelish
I've been dying to try Prune for a long time. I was always discouraged by the tight space (I refuse to wait longer than 45 minutes for a table), but I went on a Saturday night recently and the wait was only 45 minutes for 2. On top of that, they took my cell # and called when our table was ready. Perfect! Why don't more places do that? Had such a lovely meal, I'm mad that I've waited as long as I have! The bone marrow and shrimp with anchovy butter deserve all the praise they've received. I could have licked that anchovy butter right off the plate. I also had a perfectly roasted duck breast that was paired amazingly with some vinegary dandelion greens. The roasted cauliflower side was garlicky and delicious too. The only minor disappointment was the grouper, which was well cooked, but not super flavorful or thrilling. Great meal overall, a little pricey, but the quality of the ingredients is clearly very high.

Loved this restaurant!
I had a late lunch midweek and each coarse I ordered was fresh and perfectly made. Loved the roasted duck which was like the Magret I have eaten many times in France, perfectly cooked, brimming with flavor and simply seasoned with coarse sea salt. It's so refreshing to find restaurants who don't over make the food with layer upon layer of ingredients and ridiculously large portions for people to feel "they really get their money's worth." (like those over-done California Cabernet fruit bombs, over the top.) Prune was simple, elegant and I was charmed and delighted with the food, service and the atmosphere. Can't wait to go back...

The emperor has no clothes
Yes she's a terrific writer, but this is not a good restaurant. I don't mind that it's crowded and shabby-chic; that's kind of nice. But guys: the food isn't good. I say this based on three meals. Why did I go back? Because I was sure I had to be wrong given the pro-Prune press. Maybe brunch is good. Dinner and lunch sure weren't.
