Not recommended
My steak was severely over-flamed and tasted bitter. Service was a round zero, after the order was taken impatiently by an unfriendly waiter. Other servers brought the food and we had to ask them for items like pepper and utentsils and they seemed put out by us asking. We had to take a lot of trouble to catch the waiters eye to get our check at the end and he never checked the table once. We went elsewhere for dessert. The meal was hopelesly overpriced. This funny "you are a bother to us" attitdue started from the restaurant recepetion and permeated the entire restaurant. We will never eat there again.

Great steak dinner
We went to Porter House last night with a group of my fiance's colleagues. It was a wonderful meal with excellent service - I really enjoyed it! As a party of 8, we split four Porterhouse steaks, a few sides and appetizers, and it was more than enough food for everyone. The staff was extremely accomodating and attentive. I would definitely return for a special occasion.

Too Much for One Person
The atmosphere is modern with lots of light cherry wood interior. Wait staff are quite helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. The Manager will come around and check on everything (caught me alittle off-guard but no biggie). Yes, quite expensive; apprx $7.75 for a glass of beer (12 oz) and $45 for an 18 oz steak. Side dishes extra and designed for two people. I had one beer, a ceasar salad (which was a good portion on its own), NY strip w/ bone in (18 oz total), side order of broccoli (4 large pieces), and an order of mashed potatoes (can't remember the serving but I'd reckon about two ice cream scoops) for $94.45 (incl tax). I probably won't return only because of the price and quantity for one person. Otherwise, very nice.

Wine ripoff, but everything else was good
I went there last night, with a date, for a return visit. We got the Caesar Salad and the Beets with Goat cheese salad. Both were very good (4+). As there was a pepper grinder on the table, we were free to season our salads as we wanted. She got the Salmon and I got the Skirt steak, again both dishes rate a 4+. The service was very attentive and friendly, without being overbearing (5), and the wine steward was very helpful (also a 5). The bread was very tasty and they checked to see if we wanted more. The sides were a mix. The Bourbon Mashed Sweet Potato was great, the Creamed Spinach (the one without the bacon) was watery and bland. Hence my food vote of a 4. My only complaint was value. I didn't mind the price of the food, and I understand I am in the Time Warner Center so they may feel the entitled to charge a bit more. But I paid 5 times retail price for a bottle of wine! That kills me. A wine that I can find online for $23 and the restaurant charged me $100. The only way I go back there is if they allow me to bring my own wine, or I order a cocktail and drink water with my meal.

Wonderful Food, Good Service
My husband and I had dinner there on Monday night and really enjoyed it. The service was very prompt, and accommodating. Many of their salads sounded quite good, but I was hoping for something simpler and asked if I could have a simple mixed greens salad and this request was met graciously. My husband and I both ordered the Filet Mignon cooked medium, and when it was brought out it was perfect! We both ordered the sauce to go with it - my husband ordered the cabernet shallot sauce and I ordered the bourbon peppercorn sauce. We agreed both sauces were terrific, and in fact probably the best peppercorn/au poivre sauce we've had thus far in New York and also the best shallot sauce as well. For dessert we ordered the apple pie and shared. When they brought it out it was enormous! The pie was good, not the best I've had, but satisfying and the vanilla ice cream was terrific. The only drawback was that we could have used more whipped cream than what we got. The service was great, the sommelier was very helpful and our server was attentive but not intrusive. There was barely a wait for our salads to come, and our mains came promptly after our salad plates had been cleared. Overall I really enjoyed this meal and would definitely recommend this restaurant. Our dinner reservation was a bit early, 7:00pm, and it got busy around 8pm - so I suggest making a reservation.

Clean it up
My boyfriend and I had been looking forward to Saturday night dinner at PorterHouse New York. The place looked great and we were given a lovely table. But as we looked at the window next to our table we saw the wooden blinds were covered with thick dust. And the tops of some nearby circular booths also were dust covered. A real turn-off. I couldn't help wondering if they paid attention to cleanliness in the kitchen. I hope so. We each ordered the steak special and we weren't thrilled. The meat was disappointingly fatty, our salads were soaked with dressing and the dessert (chocolate torte) was too dry. Also, the service was not up to par. No one asked if we wanted pepper on our salads or if we wanted another bottle of water. And amazingly no one asked if we wanted coffee or tea to go with our dessert before the check arrived. We won't be going back.

Appreciated Experience
An overall excellent meal and experience. Professional service, fine food, extensive wine list and knowledgeable personnel. Will definitely revisit.
