Great food!
I've eaten here twice and both times have been blown away by the food (as have the guests I've taken). I'm not sure where the people who have complained below have been getting their French food in NYC, but this is really some of the best I've had! The service is also very good. It is a little pricey but certainly worth it!

Good Service, The food is not great
I ate there many twice. The food is OK, but not like the reviews said. The service is very good, but the chef keeps coming out and bothering us with questions. He was hovering too much. While some like to chat, others like to be kept alone. Another thing is the food is too expensive. Check the prices on the menu and you will see

Excellent Food, Low Key Atmosphere
Bistro Ponty serves French food with a slight African twist. Everything I've had there has been well prepared and fresh. Friendly service, comfortable atmosphere. The flounder is one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. Great local place.

Great local place
Interesting and delicious French/ North African fare in a very pleasant setting. Fish, Chicken, Beef, salads all MUCH better than in the usual place and more interesting, too. Even Mac and Cheese appetizer has truffles! Not cheap but fixed price Lunch and early Dinner menus are fine. I expect to spend numerous summer evenings there, eating by the open window, if summer ever comes.

Venture a couple blocks for this gem
On our last visit B. had lamb shank that almost melted in her mouth for tenderness with a creatively delicious rich sauce. I had flounder stuffer with crabmeat ragu which was also delicate, fresh and unusual. I savored every morsel. Before our entrees arrived, chef Cisse came out and humbly offered us complimentary butternut soups, also delightful. The menu is diverse, (check it for yourself), the portions generous but not gluttonous. We can't wait to return to try another intriguing dish or two.

I think the reviews before this one are by the chief.
This place is good. However, not excellent. The food is tasty but for a meal that consisted of: butternut squash soup, flounder and two drinks, $75 seemed a bit much and I didn't leave full. The digs are comfortable, but with the movies (classic films) being played in the background, can get a little loud.

Delicious Food and Great Service
This bistro has a wide variety of foods for every palate! The fried calamari, thai spring rolls and our entrees were exceptional. This is a great neighborhood place that you can go back to many times over due to the wide variety of its' menu and superior staff.
