Unappetizing food and poor service
I have been eating Indian food and enjoying it for the last 20 years and this was one of the most disappointing experiences I have had. The food was salty, tasteless, and when we asked to exchange the Dahl which was served as a soup rather than as a chickpea dish, they told us that they don't do that there. Me and my boyfriend will never be returning there again and we will be telling our friends not to go there and experience what we did. The waiter was clueless and totally unhelpful and didn't try and please us even when we asked him to exchange a dish which we did not like.

Good food, lousy service
The food was very good, much better than average, and the prices are reasonable, but our party of four agreed, service stunk. We had to gesture (we could have used a little flag) to get the waiter's attention and this was early in the evening when the restaurant was still half-empty. And we were very surprised that the tip was added in automatically! I am used to this in Europe, but not in New York City! We will go back, but I must repeat: expect good food, but don't be surprised by indifferent service.

Great
I have eaten here twice and ordered lunch from them several times and have never had any issues with service or food quality. Everything has always been delicious and a good value and the service has always been prompt and polite. I read the negative reviews and have enjoyed my experiences here so much that I wanted to defend this place! Great place for non-meat eaters. Meat enthusiasts will not even notice they are eating a veggie meal.

avoid
We should have known it was not going to be a good one when they served tomato ketchup with the starter. Hardly an authentic South Indian accompaniment - we should have left there and then. Both the appetiser platter and the thali seemed to be variations on a theme of deep fried mashed potato, with dull stale tasting sauces. We asked the waiter what was in one sauce and he replied "tomato and ginger" when it was clearly bulked out with cornflour and tasted like baby food. Left most of our entrees and coudn't wait to get out.

phone service
I order from this place ALL the time, food is decent but I dont know why the guy answering the phone CANNOT take an order...i mean it gets SOO frustrating...you may as well go there by the time you are done on the phone with him!

an excellent lunch
I was pleased to return to this restaurant. I had a very filling, tasty lunch at a decent price. Last time I was here, I took some ideas home for my own ersatz Indian cooking. It was good to eat the real thing. For me, a Kosher restaurant was my first priority and this was an excellent choice.
