    Awful Service!

I eat out quite frequently in NYC. This restaurant - - by far -- had the worst service I had every experienced. The waitstaff was rude and did not want to work. I was in a group of 10 people. The waiters were not happy about having us, and they made it known. The restaurant is not very big. If we wanted something, it wasn't hard for them to notice us, but they purposely did not give us any service. We had to ask three times for water. When they refilled it, they poured it in such a way that water fell from the pitcher each time they poured. Our table had water all over it. We ordered beer, they served it to us warm and gave us such a hard time because we asked them for another bottle. When we wanted dessert, they told us we had to order right away because they have been working since 9 a.m. When they served the dessert, they did not bother cleaning up the dirty dishes before giving us the dessert. Some of the items we ordered for dinner never came, though we asked them many times about it. The waitstaff was beyond rude and I feel like filing an official complaint. Never go there with a group, they don't want you.

    Unbelieveable

I went there with my family for lunch yesterday. There were 6 of us already there, and we were waiting for 2 more to arrive. 20 minutes went by and no one came up to us to fill our glasses with water, ask if we want anything to eat or drink while we were waiting. My cousin got the waiters attention finally and asked if we can order something to drink and he literally, threw the pad of paper and a pen in front of her and told her to write it down! I don't know why, and have no idea what happened but we asked very politely and that was the response we got. She asked him if he was serious and he said that it would be easier for him. We proceeded to tell him that generally in restaurants, someone takes your order instead of you writing it down, and he reluctantly took our order! WOW! i have never experienced service like that and I never intend to go back. They had a mandatory 15% tip for parties of 3 or more. i'm pretty sure that's not legal, but anyway, i guess since they have that, the waiters don't care at all! I would avoid it at all costs. There are plenty of other indian restaurant in the neighborhood...

Not the best Thali in town

Went here after hearing rave reviews. Checked out the North Indian and South Indian Thali. Idli was not that good and neither were the chutneys. Kheer was offered as the dessert for the North Indian thali and was nothing more than boiled milk and rice, very watery and bad. Rasam & raita were bad. Not the best in town. Service was average at best. Not going back.

    Solid Food, Great Prices

Pongal is a South Indian restaurant. So don't come here expecting great North Indian food, this is not their specialty. Its only on the menu to please the ignoramuses. On the other hand, the South Indian food (mainly Dosas) is done well and prices are cheap. Try it.

    Ok food...no complaints

The food here is good, but nothing special. Same menu, and the same type of curries as any other place. Not bad if you want to just try out the place.

    Same curries

The atmosphere is nice however the food was not. They serve in steel plates which I found weird yet inventive. I had vegetable korma and malai kofta & asked for it to be spicy not mild. The food was mild, no hint of spiciness. The reason which I won't be returning was that both dishes tasted and looked as if they were cooked in the same tomato based masala sauce. It was as if they dumped mixed vegetables into one sauce and dumped koftas into the second. I was quite disappointed with the food and had wished I'd gone somewhere else. My friend found service rude because the waiter? came by and took our bread basket right after we took the last piece from it. My friend considered it very unprofessional to disrupt us while we were eating without asking us beforehand.
