A memorable evening
My husband and I enjoyed delicious food at the Playwright Tavern. We shared his Shepherd's Pie which was scrumptious and hot! My burger was tasty as well. We sat by a window and looked out on the energetic pre-theatre New York streets. The staff was friendly and attentive. I chose this tavern to honor my husband's talent as a playwright whose work is often produced and enjoyed. A perfect NY moment!

Home from Home
Have been visiting the Playwright for the last 3 years and I have never been disappointed. Martina is a wonderful manager and always remembers us on arrival. The staff have time to talk and chat about home (Ireland). No matter how tired you are call in here for a meal and or drink and you are assured of a truly warm welcome. I look forward to my visit this year. All the food is succulent.

Great experience
We only had a short stay in NYC. We had been recommended this place by a friend and she was not wrong. From the staff to the food it was really great and the short time we were there was yet another memory of our visit to this facinating city. A special thank you to Melissa the manager who was very friendly and helpull. We waited to say thanks but missed her and we hope she gets this. Thanks for a great night and drink. Trust me guys the place is well worth the visit and say hello to melissa from us.

Excellent Meal!!!
We were in NYC for the day and decided to have an early dinner. We chose to get the prix fixe menu, and I had the jambalaya soup, which was a very large bowl, and excellent. They had a special with rack of lamb which was a very generous serving cooked to perfection, and lobster ravioli with a saffron cream sauce which blew me away it was so good, bacon mashed potatoes, and a large serving of very fresh steamed vegetables. Then the desert menu had so many different things to choose from, mainly cakes. I ordered the red velvet cake, which I have never seen on a menu, I thought only people's grandmothers made it. It was delightful, I think it was a real cream cheese frosting and served on a raspberry sauce. The whole meal was $29.00!!! I couldn't believe the generous portions and it was truly one of the best meals I have ever had. It did get very busy after 5:00 when the bar crowd started filling in. So if you have a chance to get there early when it's not busy, please do, and enjoy your meal. Oh, and the man outside inviting people in was hilarious and we had a nice visit with him.

Enjoyed Playwright
We were on our way to see Color Purple so we stopped in for dinner. We had the Chicken pot pie, Shepherd's pie, and the Irish Chicken, we all enjoyed our food, service was kinds slow. Over all we all liked our meal, will go again!
