While the overall experience of dining at this restaurant was satisfactory, I am writing this to warn others about one menu item NOT to order. The tomato and mozzerella appetizer consists of five thin slices each of an approximately three inch diameter tomato and an even smaller mozzerella block, with a dollop of red pepper or pimento, all drizzled with a small amount of balsamic vinegar. Served on a large plate, it lloked pathetic. When I asked the waitress if this was the correct item I had ordered, she acknowledged that it was very skimpy and that many other diners had complained about it.

The meat/veggie filling was reminiscent of the great bolognese sauce at BXL except with bigger chunks of veggies. So flavorful. Lots of potatoes. Maybe a tad excessive on the potato to meat filling ratio but it was such a huge portion and so delicious I can't complain.

Based on previous reviews I looked forward to having lunch here. It was noon on Sunday and I told the bartender there would be 2 other people joining me and was directed upstairs. Upstairs, after repeating to another gentleman there would be 3, he asked me to follow him downstairs where he showed me a room containing only tables for 2! Again I repeated there would be 3 and was directed to take one of the tables in the bar area. I ordered the potato soup and chicken pot pie I had read so much about. My companions ordered the french onion soup and chicken caesar salad. When my soup arrived it looked and tasted like watered down cream of chicken soup. There was not a potato to be found. Since there was a language problem with the seating, perhaps the wait staff did not know what they were offering as the soup of the day. I sent it back and requested the onion soup. The waiter returned w/both bowls of soup and again I repeated I did not want the "potato" soup. The french onion soup was OK but not very flavorful. The puff pastry made an impressive appearance on the potpie but that was not enough to compensate for the small bland portion underneath. I asked my companion about her salad and she commented that the chicken had no seasoning, the dressing had very little flavor and the size was not much bigger than a dinner salad. Not a place I would recommend

Stumbled on this spot before a show. With only 55 minutes until showtime, they efficiently served us with time to spare. Chicken potpie was slightly peppery but otherwise excellent, with good quality puff pastry, large chicken pieces, and an enriched sauce ... unlike the canned stock one so often encounters. Room was slightly smoky from an open from an open hearth on the first floor. We'll be back!

I discovered this restaurant by chance while looking at a menu in the window of a restaurant I had seen some good reviews on. I had never heard of it but I noticed the striking canopy and walked over to look at the menu. I asked some people coming out if the food was good and they said it was excellent, so we decided to give it a try. I'm really surprised I had never seen or heard it mentioned before because I thought it was wonderful. I wanted the shrimp and bowties dish but not with the tomato sauce that came with it, so they graciously offered to give me any other sauce. I had a lemon cream sauce which was very tasty and there were six very large shrimp. This came on the $25 prix fixe menu which includes salad or soup and dessert. Not many desserts appeal to me and I often skip it, but they had several that tempted me. I got the strawberry-rhubarb pie, which was delicious. I was happy to find a new place smack in the middle of the theatre district with good food, good prices and accommodating service. I highly recommend it. I will return.

Pleased with this District Pub. Good location, attentive staff (are you going to a show before how many?) and nice if typical pub atmosphere. Had quesadilla type appetizer stuffed with fresh makings. Hemingway sandwich was not your usual deli meat concoction, but fresh sliced meats and a very tasty horseradish sauce. Sandwich Nouveau filled with fresh veggies and good bread. Being bad I split a dessert of chocolate torte with raspberry sauce and powdered cinnamon. Worth the trip. Good location - second floor - has nice views over the once naughty 8th Avenue.

we spent 200$ on bdway show tks and about 50$ ON DINNER AT THE PLAYWRIGHT ACT 2 8TH AVE AND 45TH ST THIS WAS THE BEST VALUE IVE HAD IN NYC IN YEARS I HIGHLT RECOMEND THE PLACE
