    Disappointed

Looking forwrd to this place which was recommended by a good friend. The pizza was a big disappointment. Forget Grimaldi's and some of the better known places. The pizza wasn't even as good as our local regular pizza parlour in Manhattan. The pasta was equally a big disappointment. Not al dente, not well prepared. If you are looking for quality italian pizza or pasat, avoid this place.

    amazing pizza

This is a terrific pizza. Great for kids. Comfortable booths. The service is slow because they don't have enough waiters but the waiters do work hard. Also let's turn down the music at lunch.

    Best pizza in town!

I'm a huge pizza fan and I've had pizza in most of the NYC famous pizza places (Patsy's, Lombardi's, Grimaldi's to name a few). Pizza here is WAY better then any other pizza in town and it is very similar to the kind of pizza that they serve in northern Italy. The prices are moderate ($11-$14) for 3-4 toppings pretty generous size individual pzza. Highly recommended!

    Lucky Gnocchi!

Went on Lucky Gnocchi night (29th of the month) and had my fill of 3 different types of gnocchi. Delicious each and every one. For something like $12 it was a great deal. Waiters were nice and very accomodating. I will definitely be back!

    What a Find!

I am glad I tried Piola. The food was excellent, the service superb and the atmosphere friendly and casual. It's definitely not intimate, but not so overbearing that you can't have a conversation. I have been looking for a neighborhood type of place where you can sit down and have a pizza and a beer and have now found it. I watched the bartenders mixing the drinks, WATCH OUT! they don't skimp! I will return both solo and with invited guests. P.S. It's just around the corner from the Strand (18 miles of shelves) Bookstore which is how I stumbled across it in the first place.

    Only Good

I went to Piola's a few days ago with four girlfriends. The atmosphere--while a bit loud and overly colorful--is what I expected. Don't come here if you want something romantic and intimate. The restaurant itself has horrible lighting and some of the tables fitting larger parties are not conducive to conversation. Our waiter was fine--he sort of lingered as we took our time catching up, making decisions about what to order, and then as we arranged the check. We didn't order drinks, but he did a good job of making sure our water pitcher was filled. I ordered the bruschetta to start (delicious!--even though it's November, either the tomatoes were doused in so much olive oil and basil that I didn't notice, or they just generally had a good flavor). I then had the gnocci with tomato sauce and basil. It was very mediocre--the tomato sauce was okay, and the gnocci was extremely doughy and just sunk to my stomach. One of my friends ordered a tuna salad (the tuna was out of the can--something they failed to mention and which was not reflected in the price). The pizza here, however, is wonderful, and the menu extensive. A friend ordered the spicy pepperoni (real pepperoni, big, spicy pieces) and another a pizza with heart of palm and artichoke. Both of the pizzas were delicious--a perfect size for one (hungry) person, a thin and chewy crust, and real mozzarella cheese. I later ordered the pitted olive pizza for delivery and the olives were real Italian olives--totally delicious. Come here for the pizza!
