Pio Pio Salon

The place could use a little cleaning...it has seen some heavy use. It gets packed most nights and it is loud and lively. The service is a bit chaotic. The portions and flavoring of the food seemed very good. The mojo sauce is killer and the chicken is moist. Lots of families and birthday parties come here. Not for romance or holding a conversation.

We naturally got a variety of dishes (a big departure from the Peruvian restaurants I ate at, which tended to only have a few options). Papa Rellena - sort of like shephard’s pie calzone-style: mashed potatoes stuffed with meat and spices and then deep fried. Solid flavors and well spiced, if you’re a meat-and-potatoes person. On the side is the ever present salsa criolla, an acidy mix of red onions, hot peppers, tomatoes and corn (not to be confused with the Argentine salsa criolla).

Wonderful little spot for some Chicken and Tostones. The atmosphere is casual, as is the menu. However you wont be disappointed- Do yourself a favor and skip the Sangria, its not good and over priced.

The service is subpar. On my most recent visit, I had to wait 15 minutes for a glass of tap water. In addition, the food is just not as good. The prices have increased, the portions have decreased, and the food doesn't taste the same. In addition, the restaurant is very loud. Too loud for me. I really like Sipan, and thought Pio Pio was good, but not Sipan. I will not return to Pio Pio

Last friday went with a party of 5.Great atmosphere but too loud and noisy. They only take american express, which means you must pay cash.I ordered the fry seafood platter, it was ALL squid. The ceviche was bad and I had to send back the coffee,it must have been sitting on the pot all evening.I can't understand why chefs cut corners like these, because I won't go back.

I live pretty close and have been to Pio Pio a bunch of times. It is absolutely wonderful if you go during the week, but they really can't handle the volume they get on the weekends, and it really puts a damper on the entire meal. The food is great. The chicken is amazing-and an amazing deal. The shrimp entrees are also delicious. My only advice would be to go during the week.
