I've never been to Peru
But if the food is this good I might have to. The chicken was tender & moist, with a lovely flavorful sauce. The maduros where plentiful & the red beans and rice delightful. The Sangria alone was worth the trip to the East Side.

Great neighbourhood restaurant
The food here is excellent. They have a limited menu but the few dishes they make are excellent. Amazing value for money too - you can feed two for $20 with change. It's a bit small and crowded but that's not really an issue. Have always received really good service, both for sit-down and take-out. Only thing that irks me is that it's cash or American Express only.

Stick to the UWS Pio Pio
I love the food. It's great. But the service is not. The place is small and I understand the crowds. But the waiter was just poor. He insulted my Peruvian friend when taking our coats (she translated to ultimately say "don't worry, I won't steal them, I'm not Peruvian."); brought out the wrong order, which we were willing to accept, even though it was less than what we actually ordered, and then took the food away from us while we were reaching for the food. Granted, he was going to replace it with our correct order, but 1) we accepted the incorrect order and 2) a little warning would've been nice. Refilling our water glasses are also a must for me. Yes, I've already ordered a soda, but I still drink lots of water. Having to basically yell across the restaurant to ask for more water is ridiculous, which is exactly what we had to do several times over. They just don't have the service down like they should. That being said, did I mention the food is good? But I am definitely getting my Pio Pio fix at the UWS location. Even though UES is my neighborhood, I will never venture to this one ever again.

amazing
one of the best places uptown, the food is really great and for a good price you will always get a nice full meal, which is hard to find uptown. amazing!

Oh no, Oh no
Servers are atrocious (when many tables were empty, one waiter kept passing by saying "good-bye, thank you") which was annoying. If you must have spiced up chicken served on a plate that's too small to hold the bones -- order for delivery, otherwise, don't bother. It's too small, too noisy and way too rude - even if the prices are low (not too low).
