yummy food.....questionable employees
I cant rate the dessert since I've never had any....whenever I look at them my teeth hurts at the thought of them being so sweet. Whenever I come here I come for one thing & one thing only-CHICKEN BISCUIT. Homemade biscuit w/ friend chicken in the middle drenched in honeyed butter (my mouth is watering) & the collard greens. I've seen a lot of raves about the mac n cheese...I'm not sure why, it was very bland to me. I tried their chicken & waffles...not memorable. Their fried chicken wasn't that amazing to me neither, I rather go to Popeyes. But like most ppl have mentioned it is smack in the center of hipster village even the employees are hipsters....very disheveled looking & I'm not crazy about that when it comes to cooking & serving food.

Surprised by the Poor Reviews
Recently went on my third visit - consistently good food. I grew up in New Orleans to super southern Texan parents so I have high standards for fried chicken. $13 IS a tad pricey for three pieces of chicken and a side, but let's look at this way: Fried chix basket, fried chix sandwich, 2 micheladas, 2 hot apple ciders, 2 pieces of pie: $60 including tip and we walked away stuffed and overjoyed with the food and service. I can't say the same thing about the last 10 restaurants I've visited in the Burg. As for the people that are so ridiculously angry about the hipsters - come on! They're just kids. Kids are jerks everywhere. Don't let it ruin your meal. Will be back hopefully many more times.

Giving Hipsters a Bad Name
I've ordered take-out a couple times, and the food is amazing, but dining here is the worst restaurant experience I've had in a long time. For starters, 2 hipsters stole my table when the hostess called my name (who does that?!?!), and then when I talked to her later about how she gave away my table, she told us we would have to put our name back in at the end of the line to be seated. I argued that it wasn't fair to do that to us. It was her mistake for giving our table to 2 people who lied so they wouldn't have to wait 20 minutes. I used to host tables a long time ago - it's called making a mental note of what the customer looks like or is wearing when they give you a name. Secondly - all the servers were frowning, depressing lifeless waitresses dressed in grungy hippie clothing. Our server never smiled once, and she spoke in a deadpan monotone that bordered on suicidal. I've been to dog funerals that were more cheerful. Do not let the bad service and attitude problems deter you from the amazing food - just opt for delivery or take-out.

Really disappointing.
A LOT of people will tell you the chicken at this place is fantastic... a lot of people are wrong. The chicken is OK, it's better than KFC, but not by much. The greens are really good and the biscuits are great, but seriously, is this the best chicken in the area? No. I'm from the south and I was hoping to have something on par with Prince's Hot Chicken... this oily mess is not even close. On top of that our take our order was missing 2 of the sides we PAID for and no one answers the phone so we couldn't even let them know their take out service is terrible. The only saving grace on the service was the cashier, super nice guy... too bad it seems like he didn't put our mac n cheese and salad order in.... yea I don't recommend going here... ever.

Dissapointing
I've been looking forward to trying Pies-N-Thighs for about 6 months. Today I finally visited for lunch and it was such a let down. Quite simply, the food was very average but very expensive. I had the $13 'fried chicken box' which consisted of 3 pieces of chicken, a biscuit, and 1 side ( i chose beans). The chicken pieces were ridiculously meager. I'm not exaggerating when I say I can get exactly the same thing for free at the Bobby Vans across the street from where I work...they put bowls of chicken on the bar on Friday nights. I had a soda to go with it, so including tip the bill came to just under $20. Aside from the size, the chicken simply wasnt very good. Perhaps its better if the chicken is made fresh..I was suspicious when my food was brought out roughly 1min after I ordered it. I'll probably give it one more shot, but from this visit it was pretty pathetic and I hope is a one off.

Ha! what a joke
ok, so i happened into this place after a late night craving for some SOUL FOOD, and based off of some of the reviews I saw on this site..... what a HUGE MISTAKE! i ordered the catfish box with a side of macaroni. firstly, there are 3 very very small strips of under-cooked catfish, which i could not bare to eat in its entirety. the accompanying tartar sauce is watery and tasteless. then to the corn-bread; why bother?!? its a big chunck of tastelessness that is super dry. the macaroni is some boxed something or another with hotsauce sprinkled atop it. this mac tastes like the product of a pre-k science project. it seems someone rented out a cheap accomodation in an up and coming neighborhood, threw some groceries at a bunch of college kids and said "make me some money". a complete waste of time, money and energy. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. this mess is miscategorized as "soul food" because it simply is not soul anything.
