Piattini

This is a small and unassuming restaurant that doesn't jump out with over the top signs and you could honestly walk by without realizing it's there. That's almost what happened to me and my girlfriend. Safe to say it didn't and now we're repeat customers. The food is impeccable and the really feels like I'm back in Italy. The food is prepared with great care and accommodation to the diner's taste. We have often had dishes prepared with ingredients literally just received from market and the balance of flavor is amazing! The atmosphere is a nice blend of modern and warm. This is a perfect place to have a romantic dinner for two with superb food, a bottle of wine, and a simple yet decadent dessert.

My husband and I wanted to try a new place last night, and I'm glad we did. The staff and owners were very accomodating, quite a pleasant evening. The "real" Italian food jumped out at me immediately. You don't find fresh fava beans and pasta con sarde on the menus of most Italian restaurants in Brooklyn. We ordered the Fried artichoke hearts, the caponata (i'm a caponatina lover-this was solid!) and the fennel and orange salad. All were good. But the best, most definitely is the dessert. The BEST gelato con brioche this side of the Atlantic! We had the pistachio and the chocolate- both intense, rich, smooth and delicious. I thought the place itself could use a little more decor to set more of a mood. Also for a wine bar, they should have more whites to offer. But overall, Piattini was a great find and we can't wait to go back!

range from delicato to robusto. And for dessert, what else but the great Cammarata gelatos of yore. New York may have more Italian eateries per capita than any city outside of Italy. But there are only a handful that offer authentic dishes executed with the knowledge and skill that will make you want to return again and again. Add Piattini to that very select list.

Not your typical NY Italian, this is the real deal. A nice selection of small plates to start with, wonderful and unique pastas, and perfectly cooked meats. The lamb dish is superb. Extremely friendly service, too. And the gelatos were all amazing, we had the pistachio, the hazelnut, and the chocolate, which is a very bittersweet chocolate--not for the faint of heart! The location is not great, it's hard to see the restaurant when you're walking up Fourth Ave from the R subway. But keep going, you'll have a fantastic experience. Enjoy an excellent meal, then have a nice walk along the promenade by the Verrazano afterwards, both are well worth the trip to Bay Ridge.

The location is not the best, but it's worth the trip. I thought I was in Italy except I could understand the waiter. The calamari melts in your mouth, the pasta is all home made and the lamb shank stew is perfection. Service is personal and attentive. Don't miss the gelato or panna cotta.

I have been eating Gino's food since I was a kid and he had Siracusa which then became Briscola and then Bussola with his brother Enzo. Anyway, his food is some of the best in the city and his ice cream is the best outside of Italy...yes the best I have had in America! Expect to wait...Gino's approach is straight out of a small village in Italy. Nothing is rushed. But it's worth the wait. Some of the best restaurants in NY STILL buy ther gelato from him. Great selection of foods. Don't miss the grilled calamari, bacala fritters, pastas and especially Gino's gelato. His gelato is probably the best in the city, now in Brooklyn. This location is new, but they are old hands at fine and inventive Italian dining. You can have the standard stuff, or very, very good Sicilian cusine. Bravo Gino !
