As many people have mentioned, the manager is extremely nusty. We ordered 4 dishes including 2 apprtizers, 1 soup & 1 fish. He said that we ordered not enough for dinner time, if we want to dine there, please come during lunch time. How 2 people can order more? Though theie foods are great, I will never come back.

I don't really understand why so many people had bad experience with this restaurant. I live right across street and have been there at least dozens of times. I am Chinese (not American Chinese but Chinese Chinese) and have always been frustrated with the lack of authentic Chinese foods wherever I go, and I can't be happier when I first found out about this neighborhood jewel. I have been there for lunch/dinner ever since. I would say it's THE best Cantonese restaurant I have dined in so far in New York outside Chinatown/Flushing. Some dishes are American, I admit, but the non-American dishes are SO authentic. The service is good too - I usually sit there for a while even after I finish meal. Once I stayed there for half an hour after the meal - by myself - and I only ordered one dish! I can't imagine all the bad experience people had really existed, unless they dramatically improved their service after getting the bad review (as I have moved there only 4 months ago), or they discriminate non-Chinese (which I doubt). All in all, I think this is a place with great value - delicious food, fine service, cheap price. I will keep visiting until I leave the neighborhood.

I love Chinese food and I can honestly say this is some of the best I've ever had. All dishes are exceptional. I highly recommend the salt and pepper shrimp. With that being said the service is just about as bad as it gets. The owner are mean people and you are always rushed in and out. If the service was better this would be top notch.

I am a Native NY'er and have been to all the regular Chinese places. PG is however one of those special NY places that ,while it my seem a little rough to the folks from Cleveland ,has always been simply one of the Best in New York. Sure the old guy gets a little rambunctious from time to time but you cant beat the Sizzeling Chicken Caserole with Scallions anywhere in NYC. Look the Waiters at the Palm when it Was "The Palm" used to merely grunt out "theres steak, theres lobster what it il be?" But NY has that flavor..so if you want nice and polite go back to Iowa or wherever and have them freshen up your cup.

I went here because an older friend said it was best chinese in area. He was wrong. A lot of the dishes had no flavor and taste to them. This is a favorite spot for people who work at Channel 11. I suspect the only reason why they patronize this place is because there's really no other decent cheap food around that area.

Despite the small portions and awful decor, I have been going to Phoenix Garden for the past 2 years because it is cheap and a BYOB. I will never go again. I went last night with the same person who reviewed before, and he was being nice in his...I will not be. When we were done eating our food, which was shortly after we were seated as the waitress rushed us to order and the food came out too quick, we asked if we could open our bottle of wine as noone was in the restaurant. The waitress said okay, right after we opened the bottle an incredibly rude manager stands at our table and tells us we have to leave. I explain that we wouldn't have opened the bottle if we knew we would be getting kicked out. He continued to tell us to finish quickly, he stood over us and as I told him that this was not very good customer service he proceeded to yell at me and tell me that he knows who I am and will never be allowed back in. They followed us out. I have never been treated that way and do not understand how this man has stayed in business. Everytime I go he is rude but because it is cheap I have continued to go, my mistake.

A group of friends and myself decided to get together after work to catch up and have some dinner. KEEP in mind that this place is a BYOB. There were 5 of us we brought in 18 beers and a bottle of wine. Completely reasonable for people that aren’t light drinkers. We ordered 6 apps, and 6 entrees, so it wasn’t like we didn’t eat our moneys worth. They ‘politely’ asked us if we could hurry up our drinking, an hour after we had been there. 8 minutes later, they told us they needed the table, even though there were 7, we counted, 7 tables open in the cheaply decorated basement restaurant that we were nice enough to give our business to. After I kid you not, ONE more minute, they told us never to come back. It was the most ridiculous treatment I have ever seen in this city, in which I have been dining for over 15 years. The food was fine, but small. The service was fine, but somewhat rushed, but overall attitude of this place was beyond detestable. 0 out of 10. Not worth the trouble.
