Perfect Night in the Wine Room

I surprised my boyfriend with a dinner in the Wine Room last night. Can't say enough good things about the experience. The server and all the staff were delightful, the food was absolutely heavenly, and the setting was magical. Recommend highly!

    so sad

I used to love this place - I don't know what changed, but the service is rude (and used to be friendly and superb) and the meals are mediocre at best. Please fix it!!

Used To Be Good, Now Barely Pedestrian.

I feel sad writing this review, because I like the owners and the new manager has really livened it upbutwe go out to eat first and foremost for the food...And the food, is hit or miss: Meals aoften arrive after a long wait and arrive cold, salads are a joke: The Ceaser salads come without croutons or real Ceaser dressing. It's just protein thrown on top of a handful of romaine. Parsley salad arrives gritty and unwashed. The salmon is cooked ho-hum, with no flavor. The chicken and artichoke dish arrives dry and tired. Grilled vegetables, greasy. The pot pie is like stewed chicken that's a week old. The vegetable sides are good, beets and spinach and the artichoke especially. The wait staff is very uneven: The women are attentive and good, the men distracted, goofy and seem to be listening for the eternal call from their agent, and therefore not listening to you when you give your order, sometimes having to repeat yourself three times. We just wish the owner/chef would freshen/tighten up the kitchen and food. Because that's what used to be good and now is at best sadly tired and pedestrian, when it should be a standout.

Philip Marie is the place to be!

My experience at Philip Marie was so delightful. I had a romantic date there. The service was incredible, the food was so original and the prices were very reasonable! Downstairs there is a private wine room for two and a private party wine tasting room as well. I can't wait to reserve one of those rooms for another occasion.

    Not recommended

I went to the restaurant because of the good reviews. I think the owners must have had friends write some of them. The crab cakes and fried green tomatoes were extremely dry and flavorless. The basa (fish) was expensive and had a strange consistency, bland taste and poor plating. ..very unappetizing. The fish and the elk were plated on a mound of squash...a strange accompaniment for fish. No creativity...even the two appetizers had the same orange sauce on the side.

    Really good!

I went here for my birthday and it was amazing. Really great food and the best veggies I've had at any restaurant.

    Great for a weeknight dinner

I had the delicious shrimp and the steamed artichoke appetizer (cold) and my boyfriend had the lamb shank and the fried green tomatoes. The food was quite good (though not Iron Chef material) and it was a lovely night outside which made for great people watching in W. Village. I would definitely go back and try some different dishes. You could even make a meal out of the appetizers--there were so many that were delicious-sounding.
