    It's 'eh'

Food is pedestrian and heavy handedly prepared. Hunter Stew is really soup with a piece or two of meat. Artichoke served loaded with couscous(?) and tasteless. Fried green tomatoes heavy and unremarkable. Service was spotty. Need to be tried during week to check on the 'specials' menu to determine if this might be a keeper. But not for now.

    Great Brunch Spot

This is a wonderful West Village brunch place. My husband had an omelette--you get to pick one meat, one veggie, and one cheese. He had sausage, mushroom, and goat cheese. The plate also include tasty skillet potatoes and a slice of delicious french bread. I chose the lumberjack breakfast--3 eggs, 2 buttermilk pancakes, skillet potatoes, sausage links, crispy bacon, and the same wonderful bread--chewy on the inside, crisp on the outside. I couldn't eat it all, but each item was yummy. The coffee was delicious, and our server was so amiable that he made us feel welcome and at home. The bill was less than $35--a value for NYC and such good food. Will definitely return. They open a little earlier than most other restaurants, so it is nice to go early and avoid the crowds.

    5 Stars

Went for dinner last night and it was awesome! Prince Edward mussels, fried green tomatoes and, and rib eye steak awesome. The service was great- I didn't even feel like I was in rude NYC like many past dining experiences. Super attentive staff but not annoying. Really good deal for the amount of food and wine we had.

Go somewhere else for New Years!

Wen to Philip Marie last year for New Years and it was a terrible experience. Food was ok, but there are so many options in NYC, spend your money somewhere that will treat you with respect. I made a reservation for a large party weeks in advance. After talking to restaurant staff several times prior to arrival, including 4 hours beforehand, I showed up and almost everything I'd confirmed had changed. The MAJOR changes were, the private room I'd been guaranteed was suddenly unavailable and the corkage fee increased from $15/bottle to $20 - $30/bottle. The Manager confirmed that his staff had given me the wrong information, but was unapologetic and refused to honor what was said to me. The private room went to someone willing to pay more money than me. My feeling is that they only told me what they needed to get me there.

The Best Salmon Burgers and Tuna!

I have been coming to Philip Marie for a year now and it has become one of my favorite hangouts. When I go there it is like CHEERS. All the waiters know my name and greet me like family. It is homey, fun and feels cozy and comfy. The food is excellent and an incredible value if you take advantage of the amazing lunch during the week and brunch on Saturday and Sunday. I love everything on the lunch menu. My favorites are the Salmon Burger with amazing waffle fries and spicy mayo. It is huge and tasty. I also adore the grilled tuna salad with asparagus, egg and greens. Another favorite are the salads. My only issue is they don't have many dressings for the salads except ranch so they actually made me a honey lemon dressing which is fantastic. They also have wonderful wines by the glass and if you can get there from 4-6:30 you can get two glasses for the price of one. A great value. Dinner has less choices but everythingis great especially the stuffed pork chop which is too large for one person it looks like it came out of the Flintstones. Share a salad and a pork chop and have the wonderful wine. I adore the Riesling, The Sancerre and the Cote du Rhone. Philip Marie has great service, cute waiters and wonderful comfort food and everyone will know your name which is why I go several times a week. Love it. I just wish they would get more salad dressings! Bleu Cheese instead of Ranch. Who likes ranch dressing ick.

    Great Neighborhood Spot

I recently rediscovered one of my favorite spots. When i lived in the Village I would eat at Philip Marie all the time. Then I moved uptown. The other night I was visiting the old neighborhood and stopped for dinner. I had a delicious pork chop. My friend had wild boar that was to die for. The atmosphere is cozy and the service is friendly. It may be awhile before I get downtown again, but I will definitely be back!

    A West Village gem

Philip Marie is considered by many of us in the West Village to be our place to go to for family dinners, special holiday meals, girlfriend lunches, after church brunches, and, at-out-desk delivered lunches. In other words, its the place we think of, and go to, often. I love their salmon burger, the best I've ever had, and the waffle fries My husband loves fish dishes. All their vegetable sides are tops. Their chicken soup is remarkably flavorful. The kids love all the pasta dishes and the meatloaf, and we all love brunch here. Their lunch menu is very reasonably priced and delivery is quick and the dishes arrive hot, straight up, not capsized, and looking good. And the desserts are truly special. Their pies are so fresh and homemade tasting, you want four slices, and their pumpkin fritters should be in the dessert hall of fame. I really don't understand some of the griping reviews of this place, unless they hit a bad night, or as some have said the wait staff was rude. We haven't had that experience, and doubt most have, but all it takes is a disappointing experience and you can bet that will be the person who writes a bad review, as is their right, but sadly the hundreds who had a great experience won't. They'll just tell their friends to go there, which is why I guess Philip Marie is packed with happy diners every day. We love it,
