    Great pre theater dinner.

I ate here last Dec. before the Radio Music Spectacular with a party of 9. Everyone was very happy with their meal, and the service. We are from New Orleans and have high expectations for food, and were pleased.

    Just Wonderful!

I took my friend to Petrossian to celebrate her birthday and it was wonderful from the moment we walked in. The decor is absolutely beautiful and elegant. We were greeted immediately and showed to our table. We started with a delicious rose champagne and elected for the prix-fixed. We chose to have the caviar with the bilini, as well as the smoked salmon for our appetizer. There was a small supplement for the caviar, but certainly worth it. It was absolutely to die for. I wanted to eat it all night! The staff was very attentive re-filling our water and bringing out more bread. Our main course was yummy - I had the branzini and my friend had the steak - which were both excellent. We finished off our meal with a compilation of desserts/sorbets that the staff brought out with a candle and decorated with a happy birthday message on the plate. She was so delighted anf thrilled that they made such a fuss over her. I would highly recommend this restaurant!

    No wonder it´s empty

Presumptuous waiters, poor service, boring entrees, very expensive. No wonder it´s empty...I will never come back.

There are SO many better restaurants.

Ate here for brunch today for the first time in 10 years (when this restaurant was probably closer to its pinnacle). Today I dined with a friend who was personally invited by the owner, Alexander Petrossian, after my friend had a lackluster dining experience earlier this year. Mr. Petrossian emailed my friend that he wanted to redeem himself and would personally ensure that our experience was unforgettable. How could I turn that down? Well, Mr. Petrossian made the reservation for us (not that hard, considering the restaurant was empty). After we arrived, there was no special attention. In fact, the service was barely passable. The food was mediocre. One course out of three was good, not great. Still, having been a restaurant mgr myself, I was shocked that someone didn't come by and say "thank you for giving us another chance, here are some complimentary mimosas to get you started." Something....anything! There was no mention of the fact that we were disgruntled customers who were returning for a 2nd chance. It was incredibly irritating given that I could have gone anywhere else for brunch today and had a better experience. Why would anyone dine here when there are SO many fabulous restaurants in the area?

Fool Me Once Shame on You. Fool Me Twice, Shame On Me

So, the first time I went to Petrossian with my mother the service was terrible. I posted a review on here and forwarded it to the email of the restaurant. I received an email from Alexandre Petrossian which said, "Dear Mr Siegel Thank you for writing to us regarding your recent dining experience at Petrossian Restaurant. We do appreciate hearing from our customers, as their comments are vital for us to continue improving our service. I am sorry if you considered your visit less than perfect. The lack of service you experienced is unusual and not the standard of our restaurant. There is no excuse for the less than perfect service you received. We apologize for the inconvenience. Please visit us again, and we will make sure that your next experience will be much more pleasurable. Call me on my private phone line at 212 xxx xxxx, so that I may make the arrangements for you personally. Again, my apologies for your last visit. We hope that you will give us another chance to serve you." So, I'm thinking, ok, if we go back it's going to be really nice and we MAY even get something comp'd like a drink at least. Well, Alexandre made our reservation, fine, thanks, woo hoo. That turned out to be the extent of his making sure our next visit would be unforgettable. We get there and we were not expecting a free meal but curious to see if they knew of our last visit. We all ordered the brunch pre-fixe. The risotto was good, everything else was lackluster (I had the eggs Benedict, gross, my friends had the burger which they said was enjoyable but not great, and the fruit tart was old as the crust was stale) We each had two Mimosas at 12.00 a piece...pricey but I guess because the place is always empty they have to up the price to pay the mortgage. Everyone in the restaurant needed a shot of prozac because NOBODY smiled. The Indian bus boy looked really angry and the lady who spoke to us and took our drink orders couldn't even bare to look at us in the eye, let alone smile. As I said in my last review, the outside of the building looks amazing, the inside looks like a tacky Jersey diner. I'm resentful that our experience was not at ALL special as Alexandre Petrossian wrote and that I wasted my Sunday brunch at this dated and depressing restaurant. dine at your own risk. If you're a tourist there are better places to go to and if you are resident of the city like I am don't even bother trying this place.

    Pretty good

Went here tonight for RW in a party of 5. The restaurant is nice (outside is a very impressive building), the interior is elegant but starts to border on a little of the over the top that one might associate with Russian decor. Overall though I don't think many would not like it. The service was OK, the wait staff was good and got everything right, but they weren't particularly attentive and it took a very long time to get the check. The meal, which to me is always the most important thing, was a bit on the the light side. We had two apps, the smoked salmon and the salad. I have to say the salad was one of the best basic salads I've ever had, excellent and unusual flavor in the vinigrette. I'm not a big fish eater, but the smoked salmon was decent. It wasn't something I would rave about but it was still appetizing. The main courses were striped bass and duck. The bass was a nice portion and I was told it was very good. The duck was overall a very good meal, it had a nice taste, but was not what one would consider memorable. The portion was a little light, I could have probably eaten twice as much as could everyone else who ordered it. I do understand that duck is often a smaller plate, but nonetheless a little more would certainly have been preferred. BTW, I would attribute this to RW if it weren't for the meal pics on the gallery of the website which are all fairly small. Desert was a tarte and a Tiramisu. The tiramisu was actually one of the best tasting ones I've ever had, but again, the portion was about a third of the usual size. My biggest complaint is the size of the meal, I went for dinner, and got a lunch sized portion. While I wasn't hungry at the meal, almost immediately after leaving I wanted more food. The prices are OK compared to others in it's league, but the portions definitely need to increase about 25% or more. I would say it's worth a trip at least once, because for the value there is very good flavor, but if they don't offer larger portions, it's probably a one time visit for me.

    Worth another try

I had not been to Petrossian in a couple of years. The last time I was there, the food was good, but the service was intrusive and the lighting was too bright. Last evening, a friend wanted to visit for Restaurant Week, so three of us went. The food was very good--limited choices on prix fixe, but that's fair. We each had a different one of the entrees: duck, cold salmon, and striped bass. Everyone was happy. The caviar appetizer was worth the supplementary fee. All in all, I will be returning far more quickly next time.
