Their steaks are just okay, nothing to write home about.

Annual for Mom
My mother has been going to PL since she was a child in the 1920's. For the past 20 years we take her there every year for her Birthday. I take her with my daughter and her husband. The steak is the best in town as are the sides. We always have the holy cow sunday and everyone digs in. I hope that PL will continue to be a family tradition with my grandchildren, someday!!

The Best Porterhouse Steak
I celebrate my son's birthday every year at Lugers. I can't wait as he was born in June. Every year we say that Luger's can't be that much better than all the steak houses in NYC. Never fails everytime we go to Lugers the Porterhouse is simply astonishingly good. Crisp edges, juicy, with amazing flavor. Its the best by a large margin. Sides are also top totch. The rolls are great too. And dont forget to share a holy cow ice cream sunday. The decor is original and sparce. The waiters are pros and they dont BS. If you want the best steak dinner in the world go to Lugers in Brooklyn. PS I have been to Argentina and Lugers is better

just okay
i recently had lunch with a friend (also a chef) at PL. maybe i expected to much since im a chef. i like the place, very German style...service also ok (only man though). steak and burger unfortunately not so much. we asked for med rare and got rare, both steak and burger! i know my temperatures...steak had a lot of surrounding fat, but it was not nicely marbled at all. food was just ok. but expensive...

Simply The Best!
This is by far the best dinner I have ever had, PERIOD. The decor and ambiance is simple and old towne, which is perfect because it does not take any attention off the food. The Steak is nothing short of amazing, it melts in your mouth and leaves you wanting more. The side dishes are amazing as well. For any real steak lover out there you MUST GO TO LUGERS. The menu says it all, the only options for steak, is for how many people you are feeding, Steak for 2, 3 , or 4. THIS IS THE BEST STEAK PLACE IN NYC (yes that includes all 5 boroughs)

best steak. case closed.
the posts describing the lack of ambience and service should be omitted. they're irrelevant. this place is all about the steak (the porterhouse. NOT the filet mignon) also, the peter luger in Great Neck is the exact same place as the one in Brooklyn, so let's stop complaining a/b the trip to Bklyn.

suck it up
seriously this place is not for high maintenance people. leave your notions of proper service in manhattan. if you prefer not to be fussed over, this is your place. Nothing fussy about this joint and thats what makes it great. Steak is killer of course.
