Based on the reviews to date, I was told to expect the best steak of my life. It was ordinary. The sides are good, but the range of options is small. The atmosphere is beer hall-y. I found the service to be very good, friendly, interactive. So, for the VERY high price, I would not recommend Peter Luger to anyone.

One of the best things that we did on our vacation to New York, was to eat at Peter Lugers.The Luger sauce was amazing.Especially on our appetizer of thick bacon.Would diffently go there again.Loved the servers.We had Carl and Otto as our servers.Loved their Brooklyn accents and attitude.Pricey but worth it

We visited the Brooklyn and Great Neck locations for a head-to-head comparison and declared Brooklyn the winner. The service was phenomenal (thanks Lorenzo!), the food was amazing, and the ambiance of Brooklyn far out does Great Neck. We ordered the sizzling bacon (try it, your life will never be the same), steak for three, creamed spinach, and german fried potatoes. The bacon was a revelation. Once you have had Peter Luger's bacon you will realize you've never actually had bacon before, and there is no going back. Tomorrow morning when you sit down for breakfast and look at your shriveled little strip of Hormel bacon, you will shed a tear for what you have loved and lost. The special German fried potatoes "for two" is actually enough for six. The fried and seasoned chopped potatoes with onions are similar to home-fries. We love our potatoes on the crispy side and both dishes of potatoes were perfectly fried with a nice crunchy outer crust over a soft, smooth inner layer of potato. The creamed spinach is also phenomenal at both locations. Again, the creamed spinach "for two" is enough for at least four. I don't even like spinach, but this spinach just melts in your mouth.

I ate at the Great Neck location yesterday for dinner. The service failed big time. They rushed you to order, set the table by pretty much throwing the silverware and plates at you. There was not a point where you wanted to relax and enjoy after that beginning. The service got worse when he was cleaning away the dinner dishes and he broke my martini glass with my drink in it. He was not that concerned but got me another one anyway. I thought the waiter was cold and in a hurry to get us out of there for the next sucker to sit down. We all asked for doggies bags for our leftovers. I stopped him when he got to my leftovers and asked for separate bags for each item on my plate. He was not happy but did what I asked. I would not go back again even though the steak and the thick cut bacon was wonderful.

Peter Lugers - I can honestly say you were my worst dining experience in NYC. The service was terrible, our apps came after our steak and strangely enough our sides after that. The steak was fine but to be honest i hate the fact its comes in boiling butter / fat..... Your creamed spinach had no cream, no seasoning and was more like tasteless spinach puree.... the hash brown again zero seasoning and dry. You forgot the baked potato and I'm sorry to say we still requested it, Huge mistake as when it turned up it was luke warm and dry with missing sour cream. We ordered 3 steaks, 1 rare, 1 medium rare & 1 medium and i can honesty say there was ZERO different, all cooked the same, all under seasoned and all covered in boiling fat. I can only guess that your business model has been adapted from a fine restaurant to now one living off its history and ripping off one time visitors and tourists. If anyone fancys a steak try East Hampton Grill/ Hillstone, Keens, The Palm, Red, Prime 112, Quality Meats, BLT Prime any day but please stay away from Peter Lugers... A wasted $187.00 ! and $100 bucks to Uber there and back... O and the place stank of grease & your the only high end restaurant which serves cold break and fridge cold butter. Please try to butter cold bread with solid cold butter. To be fair the Ice Cream Sundae was amazing

If you want the Real Peter Luger experience got to one on Nothern Blvd. on Long Island. I will not go back to Brooklyn ever again most likely. The waiters are rude, hard to find and the tip is included so don't look for that to change. My last experience there was the clincher. Made my group wait for 45 min after reservation time saying they wouldn't seat us until the 4th of 4 arrived?!? This person was held up and when I pressed the receptionist about this policy he said he never said that. really? During this time watching parents in their 70's stand on the wall while walk ins are being seated was strike one after the last 2 times we were at this restaurant were unfavorable. We are seated on the wall wth 2 small tables pushed together, our waiter brought us appetizers..no sauce, by the time he came back the appetizers were long gone..with no sauce...strike 2. The steak comes out warm, not even close to sizzling, its got a "medium" plastic thing on the steak (we asked for medium rare). The waiter looked like a busboy, spoke like one too btw. we can stop at strike 3 there. Don't go here, go to long island, the waiters are first rate , the steak comes out proper and you wont be wondering why the **** I just paid hundreds of dollars for a crap experience.
