I first went to Periyali in 1994 when my real estate agent took me for a celebratory meal after purchasing my home. I had an amazing meal then, and I have had many, many amazing meals over the years. Their Greek Salad is the best in the city, their smoked trout is always fantastic, I love the assorted Greek dips, and as mentioned on other reviews, their grilled octopus is without equal. I see that other reviewers have complained about the service. I have never found the service to be anything less than excellent. I think I made myself so hungry writing this, that I am going to call in an order now.

To be honest, we eat at Periyali for their grilled octopus -- an incredible starter. Everything else is good, the atmosphere and service are excellent, and the noise level is acceptable. Their wine list has always been overpriced, but it's all worthwhile as long as we can have grilled octopus! Before booking a table for last Saturday night, I looked at the menu, both on this site and on periyali.com, and the wine list on periyali.com. At the restaurant, I was surprised to see that at least one entree on the menu (Mousakas) was $21 instead of the $18 price on both web sites and that several of the least expensive ($42) Greek wines were priced several dollars higher than on the restaurant's web site. Being charitable, I thought perhaps I had caught Periyali in the midst of a web site revision, but it is now several days later and the web sites haven't been updated. Shame on you, Periyali -- but we’ll still return for the grilled octopus!

The manager is awfully rude. I placed an order to pick up, and when I got home every dish I had ordered was half empty. When I called the restaurant and spoke to manager, he told me he would do nothing to rectify the problem other than give me a glass of champagne, and even gave me attitude. I've never been compelled to leave a negative review for any place, but this warranted it. Food wasn't prepared as advised on menu and wasn't cooked.

If only the flavor of the food measured to the decor of the restaurant-- Fava bean puree had no substance-- And there was nothing outstanding about the preparation of the fish. This may be a nice place to hang out and have drinks and mezzes but the food is not extraordinary. Save the money for a trip to Greece.

My husband and I first went to Periayli three years ago during Restaurant week and we have deemed it one of our most favorite restaurants since then. We get our normal octupus, calamari and greek salad appetizers to start. Now for entree, I've always stuck to the shrimp santorini and they have always been more than accommodating to making that dish even when it's off menu. However, tonight they were insanely busy so I decided to try the rabbit stew. Let's just say that it was unbelievable - the meat was juicy and tender and meat served with pearl onions in this delicious tomato sauce. I got the infamous spinach rice on the side which was the perfect compliment to the rabbit. My husband got the bronzino, which he always gets, and it was as simply and delicious as it always has been. To end the meal, I had the walnut cake and he got his normal rice pudding. Overall, it has always been one of our favorite places - they don't rush you and the food and ambience is fantastic. But did you expect any less from the same owners of il cantinori and aureole? I think not...I have and would continue to highly recommend this place to all of my friends.
