Went to Perilla a few weeks ago with some girlfriends, and every one of us was very pleasantly surprised. Food was really innovative, and all seemed to work. We shared a bunch of apps (recommend the duck meatballs and crab salad), and for entrees, the rolled skirt steak was excellent and different, and the cod was great. All in all, this place it up to par, especially for being so new. Loved the atmosphere/decor as well. A+

so i never even seen top chef, but my friends took me here for my bday dinner, our server was nothing short of knowledgeable, and was really sweet and cute too! honestly the food was really great: peekytoe crabsalad, pork belly both excellent, the beef carpaccio was nice too...we enjoyed a lovely bottle of sauncerre, and we all enjoyed our entrees: i had the hanger steak - really nice, duck, and the cod were all so tasty...we also had some desserts which were nice as well...also had a bottle of bubbly - we had a great experience, they even put a candle in our coconut dessert cake! it is not inexpensive, but it was most definitely an enjoyable experience.

Went to the restaurant because also a big fan of TC. Food was good, but nothing out of the ordinary. Agreed with below reviewer about being rushed, I think they might have been sitting next to us actually in the back because we overheard the waitresses lack of wine and menu knowledge. I believe the four tables around us and our table as well was finished in less than an hour and that was including appetizers and deserts. They weren't intentionally trying to push us out it did not seem like, but that their timing was just off for everyone and that Harold needs to realize he can let people linger a bit more. No real need to go back though.

We felt lucky to have snagged a reservation and eagerly awaited our evening. Sadly, the anticipation was the best part of the night. The room is drab expecially in the back of the restaurant where the noise and light of the kitchen overwhelm the space. The waitress was very sweet, but was not knoweldgeable about the wine list at all, only slightly more knowledgeable about the menu As for the food, the name of the restaurant should be "Salt". The appetizers were very nice, but too much salt, but you could overlook it. The entries were almost inedible, they were so salty. And Harold was in the kitchen, so it couldn't be said that it was an off night. When we mentioned it, all we got was a shrug and a "sorry". Everything was rushed (apps, entrees, bottle of wine), we were in and out in less than an hour! Sadly, it was a real disappointment and no need to go back.
I went to Perilla b/c I am a Top Chef / Harold fan. I have to say that I had a wonderful experience. The spicy duck meatballs were incredible. Melted right in my mouth. The chicken breast was so moist. My friends had the cuttle fish, lamb, scallops and cod. They loved their food as well. Dessert was delicious. We had the doughnuts, coconut and chocolate cakes. Again fabulous. I loved the atmosphere. Very personal. There are about 15 tables making the scene intimate. The service was top notch. Our waiter was friendly and approachable which added to the experience. I will definitely return again.

Seems to have filled a niche nicely. Very solid, NY-style small restaurant. Not too homey or uber-stylish, not too pretentious, not too 'foody' (though the food was very good, bordering on excellent). Feels like a solid place to take a date or a couple of friends. Waitstaff needs to be a little more attentive though.

Was excited to go to "Harold's place." The food was outstanding. We were very happy with the appetizers: The duck meatballs were spicy and delicious; the fish eaters swooned over the cuttlefish. The main course duck was just perfectly cooked and the flavors were yum. We couldn't help wondering how it was possible to have such moist chicken breast - they were great! Be sure to order to faro risotto - it was the best risotto I've ever had. The chocolate cake was delicious, but the fennel-lemon doughnuts were lacking in flavor and the consistency was a little strange. The coffee was very good. The service was attentive and charming. The noise level was a problem. Go, you'll have a wonderful dinner.
