Pequena

a bit too expensive for what they are offering, and that really hits home when the server is impatient.

I live in the nabe and finally gave this place a chance. The food was very good especially the Chili Rellenos. Service is mediocre at best.

When we walked into Pequena, we liked the Dia de Los Muertos vibe, and the meal started out ok with some good chips and chipotle salsa. Then it got disappointing - really disappointing. We split an entree of 3 enchiladas. The sauce tasted like Italian penne vodka sauce, and the cheese tasted like feta. There was no spice, no heat, just bland heaviness. If you're looking for authentic Mexican, this is NOT the place to go.

I eat frequently at Pequena because their food is always fresh & delicious with interesting food & drink options. However, certain hipster staff members could really care less about your patronage and treat every basic request as a huge bother. I worked in food service in college and know how it is - so I always treat wait staff with respect and generally do my best to not be an annoying or demanding table. But if one more staff member rolls her eyes at a request for something as simple as, may I see a menu please? (after waiting at our table excessively long on a relatively quiet night) or as complicated as, will you please bring some hot sauce?, then I will have to consider not ordering their amazing food again. Shame, shame!

I LOVE the black bean and plantain quesadillas!
