I've had the same experience as some of the reviews below - loved the food, couldn't stand the attitude of the staff! What's with those waitresses???!?!

I agree with the other reviews that the atmposhere and food are both great - - but not worth it to suffer throught the service! Have been there a few times and the wait staff is never pleasant. I know this is New York and I've grown up around the standard attitude - but this place just isn't worth it.

My girlfriend took me here about a year and a half ago and I was a little skeptical at first. It didn't look like the type of place a 240 pound ex-jock would enjoy. But I have to say, ...I am totally in love with this Penny's. Their chicken meatball sando is absolutely scrumptious....never had this anywhere before. Excellent fresh bread too and the fries are perfect. Their salads are really good,..try the one with the warm goat cheese. MMMMMM. And their artichoke dip is sick!!!!! You may have to wait a little but go up to the old country kitchen like bar and get a glass of wine and enjoy the atmostphere. Best part about this meal is when you get the check! Go there now!

Whether breakfast, lunch, or dinner, this place is the best! Order anything with the pesto on it and you won't be disappointed. The bagel sandwich in the morning or the nice chicken meatballs sandwich for pick-up on your way home from the office is top notch. Love this place!

So I was worried when we arrived that it was too busy to get good service, but to my surprise the staff was very attentive and patient. The food could not have been better. If you can get past some of the cheesy names on the menu (only on the in-restaurant menu), youll be very pleased. The veggie burger salad was a winner, as were the mac n cheese and spinach and artichoke dip. I dont think there was a non-winner at my table of 4.

i am very much a penelopes regular customer, both dining in and for delivery.... i like the atmosphere - it has a downtown feel, unique to this part of town. and the 30+ times i have been there, i have NEVER had a problem with the staff. on the contrary, i find them to be pretty welcoming and friendly. (plus some of the waiters are pretty hot and they wear those cute aprons. haha.) occasionally, if it is crowded they are a bit slow, but not horribly so. regarding the food, i have a list of favorites. salads and sandwiches are good... the fakin' bacon BLT is addictive! for an appitizer, the spinach artichoke dip is TOO good. red velvet cake, cupcakes, cookies, and pretty much all the other desserts are all delish too.

I absolutely adore this place and go at least twice a month. It is one of the very few places in the neighborhood with real character. Prices are VERY reasonable, food is simple but delicious, atmosphere is very cozy. I highly recommend.
