My sister introduced me to Penelope when she was unfortunate enough to live in Murray HIll :) But we keep coming back, me for the curried chicken salad which is DELICIOUS (seriously) and her for the chicken meatballs which are also pretty slammin. I hear the mac and cheese is kind of blah, but the stuff I've tried is really good. They also have a good rose sangria, which is awesome in the summer. I just ate the leftovers from my salad and I seriously licked the dressing off the carton. Enough said.

This is my second try at this trendy little restaurant. The food was good but greasy. The service was bad. They didn't want us using the table next to us (small tables for 2 that were together) because they said the boss wouldn't like that. There was almost no one else in the place, who was going to sit next to us? The service was slow. The guy who cleaned up the table collected the dishes above me and dropped ketchup on my arm and wasn't too sorry. When you order a soda, they bring you a can and a cup and they don't even open the can for you, as if they are too cool. When a young lady came to collect plates, she took the ketchup plate that we were using and then said, "oh are you still using it" as my friend was holding a french fry, we said yes, she said, "well then I will give it back" as if she were doing us a favor. First try last year wasn't that much different. Big disappointment.

i have been a very loyal customer since penelope's opened. ive ordered delivery or dined in countless times, ive brought people from the neighborhood and from other areas there, and ive written positive reviews here on menupages. so when i was just informed that there is now a $3 delivery charge above 36th street, i didnt take the news very well. $3 is too much - nevermind the fact i live on the CORNER of 36th! i am just so extremely annoyed that my favorite place in the area is pulling this nonsense.

We really liked the vegetarian options. Service was pretty good. Coffee was great.

the food there is fresh and tasty, the atmosphere is very cozy and the service is impeccable. long waits for brunch and it is CASH ONLY!

We went here for the first time and we didn't care for either of the plates we ordered. The spinach pie was dry and pretty tasteless. The macaroni and cheese dish had a good flavor but was way too soupy. The greens that came with these dishes were okay, but nothing imaginative was included. Regarding both entrees, the quantities were small. The service was good and I don't know how the waitress managed it, since she seemed to be the only person handling the whole room. Atmosphere was cute, but the benches that served as banquettes were uncomfortabale to sit on after a while. All in all, I wouldn't go back.

we go to penelope often for a nice, relaxing dinner. they have really yummy sandwiches and salads and decent wine....however, we have stopped going for brunch b/c the wait is insane and the food is really nothing so exciting.
