This place is great! The food is always good (even when delivered). The staff is friendly and the place itself is so cute. It is one of my favorite places in the city for a light bite. It can get crouded on the weekend for brunch but it is worth the wait!

I disagree with the review below. I have been to Penelope several times and have always had fantastic service. The staff is friendly and polite and they lend an element of warmth to the restaurant. It seems to be a close knit place and they even have baby pictures of the waiters on the back of the menus! If anything, I think the employees at Penelope lend to the overall great experience of dining there. The food is fantastic as well. I highly recommend it!

Food and atmosphere were great and not too expensive. Only negative was our waitress. She practically stood over us until we ordered and then made us feel rushed during our entire email. At the end of the meal, since the service was not fantastic, we left her 15% and she actually had the nerve to ask us if we thought this was sufficient since we had been at dinner "for hours". Extremely rude and unprofessional. Will not go back despite the good food.

This places just oozes cuteness. I've been here twice for lunch on weekdays and only waited a few minutes. I've had the hummus and avocado sandwich both times because it was so declious. All of their food looks super fresh and prices are ok for the most part. The brunch menu looks delicious; can't wait to try it. Tip - if there's a wait; check the bar. There may be open seats there.

My boyfriend and I went here for brunch yesterday. The place was packed, as are most brunch joints in the city. We shared the nutella french toast, the Sam I Am (scrambled eggs with feta and asparagus, served with french fries and toast), and a side of bacon. The nutella french toast was fantastic and the eggs weren't bad either (although they were improved by a few dashes of tabasco).

Yes there was a wait but it is expected at this place. Not pretentious, friendly atmosphere down to the "cash-only" brunch. I like the old charm and the food was really good! The prices were moderate considering the neighborhood and the fact that this is NYC. Highly recommended...just try to go when you start to get hungry...not when you are starving!
