Consistently Excellent
I've been going to Penang for several years and have always had a great experience. Friendly staff, excellent food, and a great value (especially their lunch menu). I've had many of their dishes and have never been disappointed. My personal favorite during lunch is the L4 Pineapple chicken or beef.

Great weekend lunch!
My wife and I were tired of Malaysia Grill up in our hood, but too lazy to make the long trip to Chinatown. Penang was the next closest choice for Malaysian. I was a little apprehensive, because my previous experience with Penang in the UES was bland, food and service-wise. We were pleasantly surprised with our experience here! The place is very spacious with a nice atmosphere. Seats in the back are under a big skylight that lets in loads of daylight, which was a nice contrast to the typical dark restaurant. We can 't wait to go back during a rainy day, sit under the skylight and hear the patter of rain on it. The service was great, both from the host and the waitstaff - I'm talkin' really friendly and willing to answer any questions, without trying to rush away. Last but not least, the food and value were excellent. She had the seafood noodle soup, while I had the Curry Mee with Chicken. Both dishes tasted authentically Malaysian and came with soda or lemonade. Our bill was only $17, before tip. We marked this as one of our new weekend lunch spots, even though it's 30 blocks away!

Excellent!
Great food, great atmosphere, great service! I had a Red Snapper entree, it was really delicious, and I loved the beef satay too! The waiter&waitress were friendly and very patient, we would like to comeback again.

Was the best, now disappointing
We've been eating here for MANY years. The last 2 visits were so disappointing we will never waste our time or money here again. Everything used to be fresh & tasty, now the shrimp was so rubbery we couldn't chew it. NOBODY cared.Does anyone know another good Malaysian place?

never again
went Sunday nite (4/25) in the driving rain; only a few tables occupied. beers, appetizer + 2 dishes - take home & simply asked for a little extra rice, which the manager in his wisdom said "had to order" - not a good decision! so for $2, he loses $65-100 of continuing business. it never ceases to amaze that the restaurant in its infinite wisdom charges this $2 for rice, which most include, so in effect, imposing a $2 surcharge on each dish; therefore, what appears to be a $15 main order, is in reality, $17 - wonder how many pick up on that? bottom line: all we wanted was a small amount of rice something in the 50ยข size, but Nooo, let's collect the $2. and restaurants wonder why they lose business! also, penang does not provide an email so i could have sent - maybe this will be seen by many, & they can make up their own minds.

Best thing ever
Really good malaysian food!! I don't know what other people are talking about but Penang is amazing. Roti Canai, Satay Chicken, Mango Chicken, Fried Ice Cream and MALAYSIAN ICED TEA. The atmosphere is great--especially for a date. Great service and food. You have to try it!
