I lived in UWS for 20 years and this is one of the or the best chinese dine in. food and service above avg, price very reasonable, free glass wine, bright and lay back atmosphere, not crowded or noisy and not on Broadway..

I got delivery. Their food is sad. Oily, bland, disappointing, they didnt add even the "extra" tofu I asked for. :-( Delivery was fast, though. I used to eat at Pearls years ago, when their food was fine... Its pretty lame now. The steamed vegetable dumplings appeared to be made of cabbage. Do appreciate that they have brown rice. I probably wont ever order from them again.

For those of you who want decent Chinese food, this place is definitely not your place. The rice is either re-used, under or overcooked, the sauces are all gloop and corn starch, either over sugared or under flavored the seafood all frozen. No care is taken for the customer and it appears that the new owners are more concerned with profit than quality. I used to eat here regularly but the chef is a cook, throws the cheapest ingredients he can find from a can onto a plate and pats himself on the back at the constant good job and great PROFITS HE'S TURNING. Save your cash and eat somewhere else like Malaysia GRill. Stay away until they hire a chef not that short order cook from your food nightmare who currently runs the kitchen and checks the til to see how great a rip off he's provided impersonating Chinese food. STAY AWAY!

I ordered the Grand Marnier Shrimp. The chef made the unfortunate decision to serve the entree on a bed of shredded lettuce. Not only does lettuce simply not mesh well with an orange cream sauce and broccoli, but because the sauce clung to the lettuce shreads, after picking them out, there was very little sauce left for the rice. My mother ordered the egg drop soup and garlic shrimp. She enjoyed them both.

I have never written a review in my life, but got such poor service from Pearls, I had to let my fellow foodies know never order take out or eat from this place. I have eaten at Pearls several times over the years. The service nor the quality is same. I placed a 25.00 order and the got it all wrong. I called to let them know they delivered the wrong food and could they please re send the right order. With no apology or regret....the lady said ok..".you will have to pay difference!" I said that is fine and she hung up the phone. When my food arrived the second time 45 minutes later, the delivery guy said "you pay difference first" and dropped my bag of food on the ground to take my 1.00 difference. Then he turned around and left my food on the ground. 25.oo down the drain.

We use to eat at Pearl's fairly regularly and loved everything about the place. Then we moved out of the neighborhood and haven't been there for about a year. Last night, it was my birthday, one of my daughters took me, my wife and two of our grand children there for dinner. Food was still superb BUT the service was horrific. We waited and waited to place our orders. Then when the food did come, and it seemed forever, it was literally thrown on the table. The servers were rude and ignored us if we wanted something else like more napkins. My daughter payed the bill and I don't know how much she tipped. If it was me tipping, and I'm generally a 20% tipper I would have skunked them. There's a great Thai restaurant up in Riverdale where we are now living and it definitely has now replaced Pearl's as our restaurant of choice.
