Excellent seafood in a great setting!
I went to Pearl Oyster Bar on a recent Friday evening with a friend of mine. We wandered over around 5:40pm and the restaurant opens sharply at 6. We waited on line along with many others, though we were fortunate enough not to have to wait for a table. The service was very friendly and efficient. For appetizers we had the crispy oysters and fresh raw oysters. Both were incredible - I particularly favored the crispy oysters, perfect fried with an excellent tartar sauce (not sure if its house-made or not). For entrees we both had lobster rolls...we both LOVE lobster rolls. Funnily enough, the first bite of lobster was a bit tough but every bite after that was perfect. The fries were good, albeit a bit on the cooler side than I prefer. For dessert I had a sundae and my friend had the blueberry pie both were great ways to top off a meal. The prices are reasonable - we spent $65 each for appetizer, entree and dessert not bad at all considering what you may spend elsewhere. I will definitely be back!

Amazing
I don't know what these people are talking about; my experience at Pearl was amazing. I had the whole fish, an assortment of oysters, and the combination cocktail. The whole fish was easily one of the best pieces of fish I have ever had...until I tried the fish special, which was red snapper & snow peas. This restaurant is spectacular and the ambiance makes you feel like you're in a cozy New England fish bar.

nice place BUT ...
Visited Pearl last minute over the weekend and having heard through friends and press about her Lobster roll was dead set on having that despite the skate offered on the menu which is my favorite fish. We started with fried oysters which were crispy and delicious with a dollop of tartar sauce underneath each one. Then on to the clam chowder which strangely enough was delicious and had the aroma of clams BUT NOT ONE CLAM IN THE BOWL !! mine nor my dining companions had any and i really literally mean NOT ONE, but very tasty as maybe "cream of clam" . Then on to the LR. Cold roll , barely toasted , a pool of watery mayo surrounding it served with matchstick fries. I asked for ketchup and since we both had fries you'd think we'd get a generous amount if not the bottle. We were given literally less than a 1/4 cup for us both, what ?? Give Pearl a try since I feel it is overall good quality though it is definitely a "hit or miss" kinda place. Service btw was excellent and I'm sure our waiter would of been happy to give us another tsp. of ketchup.

Eh..
Not that good for how expensive it was. 3 of us spent over 100 bucks on just food, and that was mostly 3 lobster rolls. The service was friendly but the place needs something more if it is going to be this expensive. You can get good LR at other places with a fresher idea on this concept and fewer tourists. Will not be back.

SO GOOD
Cannot believe the past reviews! The lobster roll is to die for. First of all huge and full of lobster, yes has mayo but not too much and the roll is buttered and toasted to perfection. The seafood stew was incredible as were the pan fried salt shrimp. I didn't love the crabcakes I thought they were a bit dry but my BF loved them. And the chocolate mousse is some of the best I've ever had. Decadent and delicious. It's a really long wait - you need to go in knowing it - ususally an hour at least. But grab a glass of wine and wait, there is usually a spot to sit at in the window and the service may be brisk but the place is mobbed, what do you expect? And you can always grab a drink at one of the many other establishments on the block if you don't feel like standing around. Or go at 5:30pm when they open so you get one of the first seats.

Too Bad
This used to be a great place, filled with waitstaff that knew the dishes and actually enjoyed what they served. The seafood was fresh and the ubiquitous lobster roll was perfection: just enough mayonaisse to make it decadent, but light enough that you could still taste the lobster meat. My last (and final) visit was proof that a good thing can't last in NYC. Not only is the service still on a steady decline, but the food seemed to be suffering as well. I can only guess that there were some lobster chunks in the mayonaisse-y mess blobbed on the stale roll.
