    Best Place on Earth

I came in on a snowy day for breakfast. I was greeted at the door by not only the waitress but by the whole bar that pointed out to me that I had left my girlfriend out in the freezing snow having trouble with the umbrella. Just the smell of chicken made my mind numb and looking at the wall of whiskey made my lips dry and crave to be wet by the brown nectar. The Chicken and whiskey is not the only vice I suffer from, also the pork sandwich runs through my dreams as a fair mistress longing for a forbidden love. The hot house is a chicken brothel with the hottest chicken that I have tasted in the north east. The southern atmosphere and blues on the radio could turn a young boy into a man in just one sitting. So drop in fill your gut and tip your waitress she cool. I'll be the guy with the long red beard eating chicken and drinking whiskey at the end of the bar.

Best spicy chicken ive ever tasted

I have nothing negative to say about this restaurant but that the service was great and the waiter was very courteous and the restaurant was very clean which is a+ for me. I will definitely come back and try the extra hot chicken soon.

Not southern, not soul, just poor!

I'm really sorry to have to say this because the owners are really nice, but this was the poorest restaurant experience I've had. 1. Our food took almost 45 minutes to come, and the place was almost empty when we got there and ordered. 2. My guest ordered all dark meat chicken and I ordered all white meat. We both got mixed. 2. Had to send both orders back because pieces were uncooked inside. 4. Got the chicken back which had been put back in the fryer. They were now on the verge of being burnt. It was dry and tasteless. 5. After re-cooking we both got mixed orders of chicken again so we just took what we wanted off each other's plates. 7. Mac and cheese was tasteless except for one nutmeg, allspice type of seasoning. 7. Never got part of my original order, collards. Even after asking 3 times, so I just canceled. 8. I never had to call a waiter so many times for so many mistakes, as well as having to go to the counter because he kept walking past us without stopping. I was embarrassed that I'd invited my guest there, and I was not happy that I'd traveled a good ways to come here. Along with this experience, another reason I am upset is because I know how well the owner can actually cook! Never again.

Tompkins Ave will never be the same!

From the board in PHH: "Good food is not fast & fast food is not good" Hard to disagree when we went twice in one day. To be perfectly honest, the service was less than satisfactory and while my mother & sister enjoyed their meal, I wasn't overly pleased w/mine (we all agreed the drinks were delightful). The overall experience was pleasing enough to make us go back for dinner and the service was much better, the chicken was quite tasty (mother was pleased w/salmon too) & once again the drinks were delightful!

    this place is so awesome.

I live right here in Brooklyn, but when i want to go out i always go to the city. My brother found this place online and i happy to said i have a new place to go to right here in Bk. The food was so good . There's a Extra Hot Chicken on their menu and i mean hot( tears falling from your eyes HOT). i had the fish with asparagus it was to die for and the triple brownie is a sin. It wasn't too expansive the bank wasn't broken. the service was good a little bit of a wait for the food but the drinks came fast.(thats a good thing if you didn't know) The atmosphere was very southern the place is small but their used the space their had wisely

shrimp & creamy grits are over the top amazing!!

In my opinion superman is reviewing the wrong restaurant... he just sounds bitter especially if he's going to say that if you dont eat a crabcake in 2 min it'll morph into some stale throw away. Sauce doesn't make crab meat juicy therefore if it's dried out, it'll remain hard. But I disgress. I had the shrimp with creamy grits which were super rich and tasted heavenly. They lacked all cheese flavor, because there is no cheese in the grits lol. All I tasted was cream, butter, white wine, and soft (yet still textured) gritty goodness. My date had the oyster po boy special which was out of this world as well. The giant plump oysters were well seasoned and lightly battered and didn't have any sort of fishy taste. During my last oyster experience, in a sub-standard bbq restaurant, the fried oysters were stuffed with dime sized meat pieces and then filled with this gross white gelatinous mush (obviously from canned oysters) that tasted gross. Peaches' oysters were 1 1/2 times the size of a dollar coin and nothing but the oyster and the batter was present. With this dish my date ordered a size of asparagus which were seared simply and better tasting than any asparagus I've ever had. He said that the flavor was from the grill.. They should definitely scrape it off and bottle it (I know, eww.) To finish off the meal we shared the brown butter cake which was soft, rich, smooth, and ridiculously creamy. He liked the bourbon glaze and the outside crust, and I loved the soft, doughy inside so luckily we didn't have to joust with our forks over each bite. This meal was definitely calorically indulgent, with each bite richer than the last and at least 2 sticks of butter coating my stomach for the next two days. But that's standard in southern cooking. The only thing that I found disappointing was the side of kale my date ordered. It was overboiled and they used too much molasses to cook it down which made it unbearably sweet; it didn't help that it was delivered to the table still soaking in it's molasses filled bath which prevented any of the sweetness from draing out. But that one side doesn't impact my view on their food offerings at all. I've decided that I'm going back for brunch ASAP! I can't wait to wrap my tongue around their famous fried chicken and waffles along with their table side french press coffee. The atmosphere is intimate and romantic but with a very down home feel, plus the place is SPOTLESS. The whole experience was just great!
