I eat at Peacefood Cafe on average 2-3 times a week and can not say enough good things about the place. Both the food and the desserts are exceptional , and I am a gourmet cook and meat eater who likes to eat vegetarian food that doesn't taste like plain vegetables. The service is also superb. The people below who complained are probably natural complainers, and I feel sorry for them. Of the 100+ times I have eaten there, I think I have had to wait only once or twice for a table, and the staff has always been exceptionally helpful and friendly - so much so, that my friends and I asked the owner where he hires people. Peacefood Cafe also has a very upbeat cheerful atmosphere, enhanced by the high ceilings and bright lighting. That the place has so many regulars say it all. In New York, with tens of thousands of restaurants, to go back to a place over and over means it must be something special.

Food is excellent, but the lemon vanilla cake is unbelievable. Does not taste vegan at all...best vegan cake I've ever had.

I can't agree with all the negative reviews. I just had lunch at Peacefood Cafe and the service was cheerful and prompt and the food just delicious. I had the quinoa salad and my friend had soup and roasted vegetables. Everything good; good value; more than plentiful portions and we were treated very well. I'll go back again.

Couldn't agree more with the reviews here. I have walked by this place several times and finally went in just looking for some yummy healthy food (I am not vegetarian but love veggie food from time to time). The wait was insane! First it took forever while the staff was away chatting for someone to even notice me and then when they finally did it was another half hour before my food was ready for takeout! I gave it another try today (last time WAS a weekend to be fair) and again - total lack of service. I went to get online here to review it only to find that everyone has said the same thing for several months.

Peacefood was a welcome addition to the UWS but every time I've gone there - and I've tried 4 times!! The service has ranged from terrible to horrifying- and I only get TAKEOUT!! The only reason I go back is because I love vegan/vegetarian and there are 4 businesses in the area that satisfy that craving. The worst time was when I ordered a tempeh avocado sandwhich and then waited for it for 40 minutes. They finally brought it out but on a ceramic plate and I had ordered it to go. Finally it's placed in a container and I take it out only to find, when I got where I was going, that there was NO TEMPEH in the sandwhich! I called and the woman who asnwered said "What do you want me to do about that?" I asked them to deliver it, which they did 30 minutes later. Groooaaaaan. I've given up. They lost me at the 4th messed up experience.

I have eaten there several times, trying something different each time. The food was so creative and delicious and I am not a vegan or vegetarian. The staff could not have been more friendly and attentive. The food came promptly, our water was constantly being refilled, as soon as we requested the check ,it arrived. I am confused about the reviews complaining about the service, it was not my experience at all. And by the way the desserts are to die for.

I have been there four or five times times. Each time was a complete disaster with respect to the service. I will not be back until i get confirmation from friends/online reviewers that service has improved. Waiting forever for a menu, waiting endlessly for the waiter to come over to order, waiting an extended period of time for a salad (note: nothing is being cooked in the salad) to arrive, waiting to get the bill, waiting for the water - this is all problematic. The number of staff is not the problem. There are plenty of staff- they just need to do their job. Also, i have been there when it is not busy- still doesn't matter- the service still was inadequate. My theory is that there are a lack of other alternatives for vegetarians in the area so people will put up with a lot. What i think management underestimates is that there is a point where people will say its not worth it. I reached that point. Btw, their food is awesome- fresh and tasty.
