Paul and Jimmy's is one of my favorite Italian restaurants and I try to get here whenever I can. It has been in the Gramercy Park neighborhood for as long as I can remember. I am out for dinner all the time but this place is a real hidden gem. Try the homemade mozzarella, eggplant rollatini, chicken scarparello. All the pastas are fantastic too. The staff is very friendly and the place is real cute. You should try to go.

    Great food, poor service

Our reservation was for 7 P.M. & we arrived about 20 mins. early. We were seated immediately & were totally ingnored for at least 20 mins. Waiters contantly flew by our table as if we were not sitting there. We had to call someone over to get the menues & the wine list. And at least another 20 mins. for the waiter to take our order for wine & then food. It seemed that the waiters had preference to which guests they wanted to serve. And.... to top it all off they were always running back & forth in the aile were my seat was & each time bumped into my chair. At one point they bumped into an empty chair that hit me right in my knee. I don't know if it a tight knit neighborhood restaurant that really does not welcome any one except their regular customers or they are just rude all the time. The food and presentation was good but I don't think they know how to treat their guests.

    Not recommended

I did not enjoy my visit last Friday night. We very seated, and greeted then it took forever for a rude waiter to arrive. We asked about the Salmon, and were told " It is plain." My girlfreind chose the prefix, and I went app and entree. The scallops were wonderful but nothing else was good. Service got worse if that was possible, the food did not taste good, and we finally had to flag a differant server, as ours would not come near. He did try to help, and ddi call our guy who could not belief we did not like it. The owner had a private party near by, and did apologize, but also questioned if I knew how food should taste. I will not go back.

    Ripped off

We have been going to P & J's for years, going back to Irving Place. We went there Sat. night for an anniversary dinner. We ordered from the prix fixe menu, as we sometimes do. My husband ordered the salmon. He got a piece of fish that literally was three bites with half so thin that is was brittle and inedible, one tiny potato and a few pieces of vegetables. We spoke to the manager who was not helpful. Excuse me, this was not a tasting menu. Prix fixe usually means that lower cost food is offered, not less than appetizer portions. Our friends had dinner there earlier that night and paid $34 for a tiny lamb chop. Our waiter was more interested in talking to customers than servicing them. He didn't even ask us if we wanted more drinks. Won't be going back there not will our friends. Too bad, because this used to be a good and reasonable neighorhood place. Poor management and quality control.

    Not good

I don't know whether my friend and I just got unlucky or whether these ratings are bs and/or written by people who don't know good Italian food, but the food was not good. (And we were there on a Friday night, when it was raining and therefore not too busy, so there's no excuse like "oh, it was an off night," or "it was just super crowded.") I know good Italian, and I'm originally from NYC. My favorite Italian includes Roberto's on Arthur Avenue and Lidia Bastianich's restaurant, Becco. The food was not edible with the exception of the caprese salad and the bread--which was not all that great either. The wine was very good to be fair--I ordered the merlot. The stuffed mushrooms and eggplant rollatini were literally not edible, and we didn't eat the vast majority of it. The gnocchi tasted like a mediocre frozen brand, though the tomato sauce was decent and the ricotta and mozzarella made it semi-palatable. I did eat about 1/2 of this, BUT it was my friend's dish and she couldn't eat it, and I was still hungry because I couldn't eat my mushrooms and eggplant. And just to toss it in there, I got this meal at a much cheaper price than it normally would have been because I used a Groupon, so if I'm this dissatisfied having paid about 2/3 the normal price...imagine if I had paid full price! Better off at a run of the mill Manhattan pizza place. And ps: the waiters were nice, so this review is not simply bitter or something like that.

Whenever my family comes to visit me, we always go to Paul & Jimmy's. I know the name itself sounds like a typical mediocre Italian-American restaurant, but trust me it is NOT! The food is fabulous. I usually go with the eggplant salad (omg SO good) and the penne portofino or the orecchiette with sausage- both are great. They always give fresh bread & a small bowl of olives with every meal and the waiters are so friendly. I come here so often that our favorite waiter had memorized our orders from last time! Totally go if you get the chance. I have had some of the best dinners (and laughs) while I was here.

I would like to say that the decor and ambiance of this restaurant was nice. However, it was a bit eerie to eat with my husband in a near empty restaurant, which is probably why my food was sub par. I heard this was a nice neighborhood place, but we were more interested in great food, and simply put- I was disappointed.
