blaahh
it was too noisy and tables too close to each other.the food i ordered omelette with fine herbs and french fries was blaahh! it was bland,the price was ridiculous$16.00.my friend's pate was no good, canned liver pate was a lot better.i think people just go there to be seen but the food was really disappointing

Pastis = Pretentious
Really? $18 for an omelette that was no better than the $4 one I had at the local diner last week? This is totally a "to be seen" place, but if you care about the food and value you receive, skip it.

Seriously?!
I went to Pastis for dinner last night... eeehhh. I would never call myself a food expert but i have taken class at the French Culinary Institue, so I'm not a complete idiot. First off, the place was SO LOUD! The tables were so close that I felt like I was in a conversation competition. The women sitting next to me had loud, mind-numbing voices... talking about their weddings and other things that make me want to vomit. We received our appetizers before we got bread & butter and beverages. Then it took 34 minutes for our entree- after we finished our appetizers. My mixed green salad with goat cheese was run of the mill. The only extraordinary thing about it was the fact that the croutons the cheese was served on had been swiming in olive oil- totally gross. My entree was Steak Frites- blah! The french fries were good, but how can you mess up something that's deep fried? The steak was tough and the bearnaise was on the verge of seperation and flavorless. My guest had the braised beef. It was perfectly cooked, moist and falling apart. The sauce they submerged it in was way over seasoned and destroyed the perfectly cooked meat. While yes, it's a fab location, the food and noise level leave something to be desired. The food is for people who eat chicken fingers, wings and such for lunch... totally clueless.

waiste of Real Estate
I just tried Pastis after I heard the name brought up for the 100th time and realized later that I would never listen to the people who I heard it from again. As soon as I entered I wanted to leave based on the noise level alone but stayed because I am not that smart either. I ordered a dried, flavorless piece of fish that had certainly been frozen and a Beet Salad that wasn't bad, a good dessert followed. My lady's Steak Frites was just like you get anywhere else so why did they tell me on the phone that there where no tables until 10:30 PM on a Wednesday night? We walked in at 8:15 and where sat right away. The staff on a whole was a good group of kids but the crowd at the bar (seemed to be regulars) was pretentious and silly looking they make for an unwelcoming feel at first only to later remind us why we choose to be originals and not trend followers with poor taste in restaurants.

Loved It
I went to Pastis about a week ago with some friends and cannot wait to go back! My group of 4 had a reservations so we only had about a 5 minute wait, which definitely made a difference. Our waiter was very helpful and catered to our every need. The drinks were well made and promptly delivered, and the food was delicious. I ordered the steak tartare and it was some of the best i have had. Every in my group was satisfied and will all be returning!

Long Wait, but good food
We had reservations, but were seated much after which was annoying b/c there's no place to stand in there and it was freezing outside. It's overcrowded and they don't seem very organized. They probably heavily overbook. The eggs were delcious however. They were extremely fluffy..the best I've had.

Great Experience
I dined with 10 friends at Pastis last week and couldn't have had a better experience. The food, drinks and service were above average. After reading comments I was a little apprehensive about taking friends there for dinner. I would certainly recommend it to anyone considering a pleasant dining experience.
