    A pleasant surprise

Since I live across the street from Parlor I felt motivated to try it out after what seems like a decade. Mostly I was dissuaded by the negative reviews posted here as well as the high prices. It is overpriced but my wife and I had a very enjoyable meal. We started off with a beet salad that was simply fantastic. She had the scallops and I had a 7 oz. filet mignon with baked potato (an extra). Hers was $29 and mine was $43 for not particularly big portions but the food was quite delicious. It was topped off by chocolate cake for dessert. Service was prompt and professional. We would only go back on special occasions but if you are willing to spend $140 for two, including the tip, you will enjoy yourself thoroughly. The tables are not on top of each other like most UES restaurants and the general vibe was luxurious. I'd recommend this place with the qualification that it is overpriced. But then again so are rents in the neighborhood. This is the UES after all.

    Downhill

I'm not sure who is writing some of the positive reviews but I almost feel they went to a different place. As soon as you walk in, the attitude begins. When they see a child, they try to throw you against the window behind the bar. That is their "children's" section. More importantly, the food. Since I live across the street, I want this place to be good, but it's just NOT. The chuck of caesar salad that we ordered has absolutely no taste. Then the main courses. My wife's fish was so small, it was pathetic. For over $30, don't let my 100 pound wife leave hungry! To add to that, it was just tasteless. The meat is never cooked properly, and I think they forgot the seasoning. Even my kid's chicken fingers were unappetizing, we had to send them back and he eats just about anything that you put in front of him! He wouldn't touch them. I tried one and it was overcooked. I didn't blame him. The servers seem to have a bad attitude and they act like it's a chore to do their job! Please just hire friendly, quality servers and people will appreciate it much more than out of work models. I will never come back here and I really hope they are replaced soon by a good restaurant with a more varied menu at reasonable prices and with ownership and a staff that actually care if you are happy.

    Never again!

If four sea scallops and three cut up brussel sprouts are your idea dinner, this is the place for you. Not even roasted potatoes or other little extra came with this $29 entree. Who wants to eat in a noisy restaurant, with its bar and huge, intrusive TV's in view; a loud din making it hard to converse; and on top of that, pay through the nose for an itsy bitsy meal? Not us, not again!

    Get Back to the 'Hood

Living in Carnegie Hill is a good thing. History, architectural beauty, world-class museums and a great eatery are right here in the 'hood. Many Wall Street personnel live on the Hill. They are brokers, traders, fund managers, lawyers, and analysts. They work hard, play hard, and they like the good life. And they love good food and drink after a hard day in the trenches. Parlor Steakhouse is a wonderful addition to the Upper East Side and to the Hill. The space is upscale NYC modern. The menu features steak, fish and raw bar. The selection of appetizers is unparalleled. Mussels cooked in a beer broth with tangerine and Italian sausage tantalizes. Mac & Cheese served in a skillet at the bar is a treat. Sunday brunch is a spectacular madhouse. Best deal in town! Synergy and commitment makes Parlor work. Staff camaraderie is deep. The drive toward quality is exceptional. Lucas, a CIA graduate, is a master chef and "keeper of the kitchen." The warmth and beauty of the greeting you receive when entering Parlor is refreshing and inspiring. "Moral of the story:" get back to the 'hood a-sap "after the bell" at 4 pm!

    Overpriced

Everything started off great, the decor was very inviting, good crowd, nice staff, and what seemed like a creative (and reasonably priced) menu. We ordered steaks off the price-fix. Was very disappointed as the ceasar salad was weak and mostly the core (of the romaine), they forgot the sardines, and when dinner came they mixed up the tempatures on the steaks we ordered. I can get past most of that as mistakes happen (and hey- this was the price-fix), but the quality of the steak (ribeye) was poor and when you add in a few glasses of house wine, the bill was a couple hundred dollars in no time. Oh- and the waiter couldn't have been less interested in our table after we got our dinners. I really wanted to like it, but it was mostly smoke and mirrors when it came down to actually eating. I thought the whole average food, nice atmosphere, deceptively expensive drinks model ($15 house cab) was over....but apparently not on the Upper East Side....

    Stay Away

Stay away from this place! There are greater steakhouses that you can spend your money on. Food is mediocre and service is subpar.
