    Try to Avoid

Can't believe this restaurant is still in business. Relocated since 9/11 to the old Morgan Williams spot. I hadn't been there in years but assumed it must be good if it was still around. Wrong! Ordered a fra diavolo sauce that tasted like it came out of a can. Not even a jar. Tiramisu was good.

Don't go on a cold day!

The food was good, not outstanding. The service was inept - the waiter didn't even ask if we wanted dessert - just slapped a check on the table. The worst part was we had to eat in our coats. There was zero heat in the place and you could feel the cold air blowing thru. I ordered tea just to wrap my frozen hands around something.

    Undeserved praises

I am really not sure about all these praises here. My experience there was sooooo tasteless. I ordered chicken ceasar salad and other people ordered some pastas. I'm a big fan of both authentic italian and american italian cuisines. This place serves some boring cafeteria version of the cuisine. zero flavor, bad ingredients. I don't understrand how they stay in business.

    Love This Place

The burgers are the best anywhere, sandwiches also amazing. Bartender service polite and knowledgable, i cant think of any place in lower Manhattan comparable

Great food and ambiance at great prices.

Have been going to Papoo's for years now - and the food is never a disappointment. The seasonal specials are always worth a try, but the traditional menu will never leave you disappointed. For a great evening, appetizers, entrees and dessert, it's a steal. Finish up the meal with their original Wine Cake - served hot! Mid-week there is usually a lively bar crowd - and the bar offerings of steak sandwiches, a filet mignon sandwich in balsamic vinegar, and their 1" thick burger are top notch. My only drawback - jukebox is a little on the loud side. Overall would give it 9+ out of 10.

Don't get their Long Island Iced Tea

Let me first get this off my chest. The most I've ever paid for a Long Island is $12 (before tax & tip) at a much fancier/expensive restaurant in Manhattan. Papoo's charges $15! I had 2, the 1st was good and the 2nd one had less alcohol than a beer. I'm not sure how much their other drinks are but I bet they're equally overpriced. The service was average for NYC which is basically bad for the rest of the U.S. I had the lasagna and my date had canalloni. Both were pretty good but nothing to brag about at the price. If you live in the downtown area, you can try them out. I don't discourage anyone from going but I'm not sure I can recommend the place. They had a lot of empty seats on a Friday night.

Great food & even better chef/owner

I stumbled upon Papoo's--quite literally--when walking in my new neighborhood. It was a wonderful surprise when I walked in to find a spacious, modern, and elegant space. The greatest surprise was their fabulous sundried tomato, basil, olive oil and garlic spread that was presented upon our arrival. We had never tasted anything like it and haven't since. The entree--my usual test dish of eggplant parmiagian--was the best I'd ever tasted. My friend had the salmon primavera and was delighted by its freshness and taste. That was my first visit. Since then I have taken my out-of-town Italian relatives and they raved about the smoked mozzarella penne in cream sauce with arugula, the salmon primavera and the entire meal. Chef owner Nick selected a wonderful wine to compliment our dinner and it was a huge success. Visit Papoo's; you'll be welcomed like family, and enjoy a delicious meal. Grandma Rosa's tortellini is also outstanding.
