Raw chicken, burnt pancakes.
If you like raw chicken and burned pancakes for brunch, this is the place to come. As I was focused on my chicken paillard over salad and trying to find a piece cooked enough to eat, I hardly noticed my husband who was trying to figure out how to cut his pancake which was so overcooked, he couldn't get his fork out of it. Honestly, I thought it was a joke. His pancakes were so burnt and hard, they could have been part of a plastic food display. Our friend enjoyed his eggs. I guess that's the thing to order here. We were not asked to pay for our brunch....since we couldn't eat it. Our waiter, a nice man, was most kind and apologetic but the hostess was somewhat annoyed that we were not willing to accept another try at the chef's offerings. Once was enough!

Truly uninspired
Just a place to eat. Nothing special. Probably a better bar or hang out. Breakfast was overpriced and boring. This is NY, expect better if you're paying these prices.

Could use improvements
I was expecting a little more in terms of decor, but overall its a nice ambiance. The service was decent, and I like the fact that they gave me the option of eating upstairs (where it was quieter). I had the steak tartare, which would have been better had the chef not gone overboard with the hot sauce. I'm a spicy food lover, but this was far too much spice and completely overpowered the delicate flavor of the meat. The already cracked quail egg on top was a nice touch though.

Decent Place
This restaurant is decent for the buck you pay. I had the steak frites with a shrimp cocktail as an app. Shrimp a little bit mushy, but the steak was excellent. For $29 the steak is worthwhile, as you are going to pay atleast this much or more anywhere. Service was good, maybe because it wasn't too busy. I don't know. Overall a good experience, with this being my first time in NYC.

Not worth it for lunch
The restaurant looks great, and the menu looks interesting, but the service was very poor. We waited over an hour for our main course. We ordered the croque monsieur, which was nothing like a traditional croque monsieur, but rather like a regular grilled cheese. The waiter had no idea about the menu, either, and disappeared from the time he took our order until he handed us the bill. Great potential, but not worth it.

Disappointed
Unimpressed by poor, overpriced food and equally poor service. Wont be returning.

Great Maitre'D, very decent brunch
I strolled into Papillon for a Saturday brunch alone. The host at the door was cordial and sweet, seating me promptly and joking a bit. The maitre'd actually waited on me and gave me a mimosa on the house because my benedict took a bit long. I hadn't even noticed... the place was beautiful with huge picture windows and a bustling bistro flair. A classy christmas tree was the center piece of the second floor room. The eggs benedict was cooked to my satisfaction and the brunch comes with an included mimosa or bloody mary. Upon leaving, the maitre'd gave me a card with a complimentary beverage for my next visit. Yup, I'll be back. :)
