We had seen good reviews and wanted to try this restaurant before dining there with out of town guests in a few weeks - good thing we did because it was well below average. The staff was nice enough and our server was functional, but stoic. The ambiance was drab, although I did like some of the music being piped in (at least it was in Spanish and somewhat authentic). My first thought was "What, no chips and salsa?" It was never offered. We did order guacamole (okay) but the chips were cold and stale. The margaritas were bad (I make better ones from a mix at home) and disappointingly small (What, this is all I get for 9 dollars?! And me who wanted to get a nice buzz going!) The service was fast enough but the food seemed like it came out of the microwave. The flautas looked and tasted like they had been sitting out for days and the mole was WAY too sweet. Really, I have had better frozen dinners. We didn't stick around for dessert. Hasta nunca.

I love this place. It's nice atmosphere, and great food. Not what one expects. Quails eggs with pumpkin seed paste, and the Chile Relano stuffed with squash - YUMMY! Best yet - Tamarind Margarita... and DELICIOUS TEQUILLA! Bets to order a bunch of tequilas between a few friends and then try them out – some are nice and spicy. Had never experiences tequila in this way – served with a nice tomato juice accompaniment – REALLY GOOD! I’ve been back a few times now… will continue.

I went here with a group of friends the other night and I really wasn't expecting much, but they had awesome food and amazing service! We were a large party with no reservations and they were so accomodating. I would recommend this spot to anyone. It's no overly pretentious but still a great place for a nice dinner.

It's hard to find great Mexican food in Manhattan, especially when you're from southern California and you KNOW excellent Mexican cuisine. Papatzul is original and amazingly tasty, the desserts are a must! I've brought friends to dine here who don't really know good Mexican food. A bit pricey, but well worth the visit.

We enjoyed the eats, but the bar was stupid slow. Decor is not exactly cantina-like. Hopefully it will work out the kinks.

A wonderfully creative menu that makes it hard to decide what to order. The swordfish was the best we've ever had. The owners/chefs pay attention to every detail and it really was a fabulous experience. Do not skip dessert...

margaritas were good. my friends had the hearts of palm salad and all it consisted of was a plate of iceberg. Guacamole was too salty for my tastes. However, the tortilla soup was really good. Menu is very limited and on the expensive side.
