Not recommended
All in all, this was the worst restaurant experience I have had in my 5 years as a New Yorker. And, let's face it, that's saying something. The margarita menu looks impressive on paper, but the drinks are all overly sugary and syrupy. The food is bland and tastes prepackaged. The waitress and hostess were pretty nice, but the manager is so unpleasant. If you want rude service and poor food this is the place for you. If, however, you’re looking for a nice meal, nice people, and a nice time, you’ll need to look elsewhere.

Best Mexican Food in NYC!
This restaurant is amazing! The fish tacos are my favorite. The tilapia (white fish) is abundant, flavorful and can be ordered grilled or fried (we like both). The sauce has chipotle undertones and is rich and slightly spicy. One serving comes with four large tacos stuffed with tilapia, creamy sauce and shredded lettuce in fresh soft tortillas. By far the best I've had. Also love the guacamole, red sangria and margaritas. These people know their tequila. Service is consistently friendly and knowledgeable. Papatzul easily competes with much more expensive restaurants. Highly recommend!

Nothing special
I have had much better Mexican food than here. It was ok, but not good enough to come back again.

Very Disappointing
Sadly disappointing after reading good reviews. The ceviche barely had any seafood in it and the tomatoes were not fresh. The sopes were tasteless. The service was slow. The place has a cute atmosphere but it lacks service and quality. Would not recommend.

Everything I've been looking for in a mexican joint
I have spent 10 years in New York looking for a restaurant with a straightforward/classic mexican menu that's carefully executed using the freshest and highest quality ingredients, at excellent value for money and I finally found my holy grail last night when i was taken to Papatzul by some friends . i was completely blown away by the taste of each dish: the carnitas were so smoky, succulent and tasty, and excellent value at $12 for four large taco's piled high with meat; ditto the fish tacos. as i enjoyed every bite, i fell into a silence as i wandered into a mexican fishing village in my mind. the guacamole was also good and perfectly spiced. My only complaint was that the restaurant was a little loud (although nothing like Tortilla Flats and other mexican restaurants, and it was on one of the busiest nights of the year in Soho), and that the waiter toppled a glass of beer on his tray that fell down my friend's back — although he was extremely embarrassed and apologetic about it and comped her food from the bill.

Great overpriced mexican food
Coming from the south where tex-mex is abundant and cheap, paying $18 for two flautas on a plate with absolutely nothing else was a kick in the gut. Not to mention the drinks were just ok. They could do a lot better!
