Great lil space ...
... But the food quality could have been a bit more. Had the steak and snapper. Snapper was quite tasty. Steak cut was rather uneventful ... Disappointing since the sauce and whipped spinach was pretty good.

Just like mama's!
Friendly staff, good wine recommendations, cozy atmosphere makes Pao a desirable dining experience. Not to mention the home-cooked dishes ... the scallops are the best I've ever had and last Saturday I had sliced roasted Lamb on a bed of potato puree along with thinly sliced carrots just like mom used to make! My sister had rabbit and she raved about it as well ... If you want to feel at home, this is the place to go ... always a pleasure!

Good Portuguese food + Fado
This is the only restaurant in NYC with Fado music and it's on Wednesdays only from 8:30pm-10:30pm. The show and dining were good and the place is small but was cozy. We were in a group of 6 and all had bacalhau a braz for entree. We shared appetizers such as pasteis de bacalhau and salada de polvo which were also very good. We were a bit disappointed that they did not have "vinho verde" and "pasteis de nata" in their menu.

Delighted with Pao!!
I have the great pleasure of family from Portugal so of course when I found out about PAO I had to try it. Nestled one block from the Hudson River two seconds literally from TriBeCa and SOHO and the Village it's a prime blessed location. Everything is beyond what I ever expected! Everyone is like family to each other. The atmosphere is warm/friendly and cozy. The locals are high profile celebrities/directors/producers/publicist and models. They nestle them selves humbly next to the average with out notice and all enjoy great music and company and break bread like one big family. The outdoor seating provides the most amazing sunsets and the synergy is to much to explain. If you love the European vibe and traveling you will appreciate all that PAO has to offer. The owner is always on hand offering a warm smile and outstanding service. Saying hello and making everyone feel at home. All you have to do is ask and it shall be done at PAO. PAO IS A MUST..

just the worst dining experience ever
we had reservations and the dinner took four hours still! the waiting staff was nice, but we sat for about an hour before anyone brought us bread. the watercress salad was undressed and i agree, tasted like grass, the octopus was served cold, but the scallops and shellfish pudding were quite tasty. the restaurant has a nice ambience aside from the fact that there's a teen punk bar across the street. mid-way through dinner, a street fight broke out and glass was thrown at us.

Terrible
To start with, our waitress/bartender was very surly and rude. I figured Ok, no biggie as long as the food is good. It wasn't. Steak tasted bad and the potatoes were soggy and undercooked. Terrible place!

Better than expected
I didn't think that a Portuguese restaurant in Manhattan would be good, but I was pleasantly surprised. The food was amazing. The Caldo Verde was as good as my grandma used to make. The service was wonderful, too. I recommend this place to everyone.
