This is a real Mom and Pop sushi shop. Nice people who care about their customers!! It’s big and it’s roomy & airy and you never feel pushed out the door to make room for the next diner. It's a great place to meet friends after work, a wonderful place to grab a quick Sunday lunch. I've been stopping in since they opened-- Not posh, not perfect, and just very pleasant.

Oyama is some of the cheapest sushi you'll find in the East Village, and it's actually great for the price! I've typically had decent service in the restaurant itself, maybe a little slow but not poor. I usually get delivery from here because I've tried a couple other places and this one is just always the best. I love Oyama! Oh and PS. their tempura ice cream is AMAZING.

Quite possibly the poorest sushi I ever had. Quality of fish was poor and not fresh. Entree came minutes after ordering, which leads me to believe it was prepared earlier and refrigerated. Table was sticky. Booth smelled of cleaning fluid. Atmosphere sad. Waitstaff cheerless. No pretense here though - you get what you pay for, I suppose.

Ordered sushi deluxe, sashimi deluxe and beef teriyaki. Fish tasted old and bland Rice was saturated in vinegar, guess to cover the fish. Two bites was all anyone could eat. We ended up eating elsewhere.

This place is the best value for sushi in the entire city, but there is a trade off. Some times you get excellent sushi, and sometimes it's not so hot. The worst days to go are in the middle of the week, which is when I am constantly craving sushi, while the weekends are usually pretty good. They have a tendency to buy their tuna in really big quantities, it seems, since it is the thing most likely to not taste fresh. Even still, you can't go wrong with the prices, the service is generally acceptable, if not excellent, and it makes for an excellent neighborhood spot. Lower your expectations in line with the prices and you'll really enjoy it. If you want

Sorry, but the sushi isn't very good. Ordered a spicy tuna roll and got mushy salmon--it wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. The crispy salmon skin roll had mayonnaise on it, pretty unpleasant.
